“Let me see the journal.” Isla pulled the leather-bound book from her bag and handed it to him. Gideon opened it carefully, his fingers tracing the faded script and strange symbols on the pages. His eyes narrowed as he read, and for a long time, the room was filled with nothing but the sound of crackling fire. “This is old,” Gideon murmured, more to himself than to them. “Older than the Crescent Moon pack itself.” “Can you read it?” Isla asked, her voice laced with hope and frustration.

But at the front door, he said something, words leaving his tongue laboriously. "The Bible," he whimpered to me. Immediately, I ran back into his office, rummaging through the mess. It was in the most obvious place I didn't think to look in - on the last standing bookshelf, as the last standing book - the Hebrew Bible. And the irony was piercing - Abraham looked through every book that Ben owned except for the holy book itself. A book that would most like burn Abraham or his minion's hands if he were to touch it. I sat down and tapped the keys, my fingers moving by instinct. A notification was blinking on the main screen. No sender, no subject, just a video file. I clicked it. The screen flickered, then cleared. It was a small, concrete room with no windows, just a single chair bolted to the floor. And in that chair was Gideon. My breath hitched. He looked terrible. His face was a map of purple and yellow bruises. One of his eyes was swollen shut, and his hands were cuffed behind his back. But his other eye, the one that was open… was sharp. He wasn't broken. Not yet.

Jogging up beside him we headed further into the trees. We walked for several miles and I side-eyed him in irritation. “Are we close?” He nodded and said, “It's built next to a cliff overlooking a pristine valley with a small waterfall. So when you hear rushing water we will be there.” Tilting my head I listened and could hear birds chirping and felt another presence. Glancing behind us, two red eyes narrowed at me. Startled, I jumped back into Gavin. “Gideon?! Why are you here?” “On orders from the council. Apparently, you two have stirred up the damn high king, and the Goddess says whatever you both did must be rectified,” he asserted.

But not at all scary for the brave Gideoan. From inside the car, Amelie shuddered in fear, watching the fierce fight of the men out there. She silently prayed that God would protect Gideon from the men's evil hands. In the next attack, Gideon managed to parry Hendy and Javier's punches, even though they were fast and brutal.
