His arms attacked the men before him in a flurry of blows, and then, he gave one of them a hard punch to his chest, and his chest caved in. With another punch to his throat, the man's eyes rolled to the back of his head. The other two didn't fare better, and in a few seconds, they fell to their death.

But he remembered everything. “I notice everything,” Gideon said, quiet. “I was seventeen. Newly knighted. Everyone called me a knight, but I still felt like a boy standing in armor I hadn’t earned. My father had just died. And I was still trying to figure out if that made me free… or hollow.” I almost smiled. “You looked like a statue.” Gideon huffed something almost like a laugh. “I was trying to be one.” We stood in silence for a beat. Then I whispered, “She told me your name that night.”
