Someone ripped it. April Rose felt like there were a lot of important information about Cassandra Spellflower that was taken out of the book. She felt a surge of eagerness to know more about Cassandra. She flipped the pages of the book hoping to find the ripped pages, but she couldn’t find them. She grabbed a different book, flipped the pages over and over again only to find nothing but dust falling. She grabbed two more books and flipped them in hopes of finding the missing pages. Instead of finding the ripped pages, she noticed something fell from one of the books she just flipped. It was an old photo. She went down on her knees and picked up the photo, and when she flashed the light on it

I won’t try touching it again. Closing the box, I approached the shelves. I take out the book closest to me. Brushing off the dust, I realize it’s a strategy book, written in delicate penmanship. The paper is fragile, but the tome is bound with great care. The other side of the shelf seems to have hard-bound journals. It’s like an entire couple’s life secured in one small room. I heard a scraping sound, and I turned my head to see Robert picking up a stack of small portraits from one of the iron boxes in the corner.

Like everything connected to the royal pack. This is getting more and more interesting. I stare at the stamp for a long moment, trying to convince myself I am reading it wrong. “Royal Library Archives,” I read again in my mind. But the words do not change. My heart starts pounding hard against my ribs. Slowly, I reach down and pick up the photograph. The moment my eyes land on it, everything around me feels like it freezes. The entire world goes silent… even my own breathing seems to stop. The photograph shows a baby girl, a beautiful baby girl.

A familiar book for the ride back. Jeffrey leaned closer. “What are you reading?” I didn’t look up. “Philip’s Room by Raven Black.” He looked stunned. “No fucking way! For real?”

His bushy eyebrows rose an inch when I told him about Hakeem and I participating in the Circuit. “Hold up, let me show you something.” He grunted, pushing himself up from the dining room table. The combat boots he wore thudded across the floor as he vanished into the living room and returned with a slender book in his hand. The leather cover, which looked like it had once been a deep maroon, was cracked and faded. In some parts the leather had peeled away entirely. With a flick of his hand, he opened the book and left Hakeem and I to stare in silence at an old photograph featuring ten people. The date scribbled on the side was from nearly thirty years ago.

Some of them looked very old. The smell of old paper filled the air. “Wow,” I whispered again. I ran my fingers along the books. “History… mythology… politics…” Then something caught my eye, a large photo album sat on a lower shelf. I picked it up and sat down on a chair. When I opened it, the first photo made me pause, a man stood in a black suit.
