Book Reading Snaps Novels & Stories

I still tried to read on, maybe I would find something interesting, but it just bored me more and more so I dropped it. I went back to the shelf I took it from to place it back, and began searching for another one, a romance genre this time. I continued searching till I saw one at the end of the shelf. I could not clearly see the cover, but I could see red lips on it, catching my attention. I reached out to take it, but my hand didn't get to it. It was Steve, and I felt embarrassed that he caught me reading such a book. I stood up, trying to retrieve the book, but he held it high above my head. I couldn't reach it. As I tried to stretch to grab it, I lost my balance and fell onto Steve's chest. He caught me by the waist and pulled me closer to him. With one hand holding the book, he looked into my eyes, and we were dangerously close. I couldn't help but gulp, feeling a sudden rush of emotions.

I read for eleven nights. We do it at the end of every march, in the open, wherever we have stopped, with three clerks writing and a woman with a good voice repeating each line down the column so the back of it hears. Sela calls it the reading. Within four days the holdings on the road know when we stop, and they come out to it, and by the seventh day there are people walking a day north to meet us so they can hear it and then walking back. It is very boring. Nobody expects that, and I have come to think it is the point. It is an account book. Weights of grain. Counts of hides. Dates.
