Chapter 8|Medicine and Fruits AYISHA'S POV "Please, Ayisha, wake up." What happened? Who's crying next to me? I slowly opened my eyes and looked around, feeling myself. The desk was spotless, and everything in its place. Years of marriage had clued me into Nom's routines. I went straight for the hidden keys tucked under the desk and with a familiar flick, I had them in hand. The lock clicked open, and an old, well-thumbed photo album was in my hands. The worn cover told tales of many nostalgic moments. I felt a painful squeeze in my chest at the thought. Brooklyn said, sitting at the table where her laptop and notebook sat. Kendall pulled out a chair and sat down. “What’s up?” Brooklyn asked, shutting her laptop. “I did a reading today,” Kendall said, taking out her notebook, “and it’s got me a little worried.” Frowning, Brooklyn said, “What did the cards say?” Opening her notebook, Kendall looked at her notes. “It’s saying something about heartbreak, danger, and loss,” she said. Shea paused in her chopping to say, “That doesn’t sound good.”

Then the small box began to open, and Dinda began to see what was inside the small box. Inside the small box, was a book. Dinda only opened the book, it turned out to be a book belonging to his late wife Luis. Dinda began to be curious, and read the contents of the book. It turns out that the book contains everything about Luis, from what Luis likes to what Luis doesn't like. Reading this book, let Dinda know. That fantasy died the second the door opened. *** The apartment looked nothing like before. The Persian rug I'd had someone bring back from overseas was gone. In its place—muted light gray.
