They did not change Don. Most were positive. Three were very positive—the reviewers who had understood the argument and engaged with it seriously, who had written about the book as a book rather than as an occasion for their own tangential thinking. One of these was in a major literary publication, the review that would matter most to the publisher, the review that would be quoted in the advertisements and printed on the paperback edition. The reviewer had written: "The Inside Account achieves what the best books of its kind achieve: it changes the way you see the thing it describes. After reading Don's argument about the reciprocal account between person and place, you will never again thin

Lisa was in no mood to put up with his carping, Joseph stepped in before Lisa explode. "Lisa, you can't change his temperament and it's no use struggling with his personality. If we take him too seriously, we will all end up in a mental hospital." "How could you be friend with him?" "The most formidable man is not the one who kills up all his enemies, but the one who can turn his opponents into his friends. I could turn anyone into a friend." For a woman, the best way to be close to her was not listening to her crazy talks, but grumbling about the person who were annoying together. Then, you could talk about your shared activity, which would lead to other conversation topics, too.

“I’m reading about relationship building, and why it is important to communicate openly and honestly with each other.” “That sounds pretty interesting,” I answered, giving him a softer, more trying smile, while I looked at the cover of the book. “Is it an easy read?” A small smile spread across his lips as he looked down at the book. His long, white hair was tucked behind his ears, so that it was clear to see his long face with a strong jaw. “It can be a little dry.” “You should probably find one with pictures and models in it, then,” I smiled, leaning back on the bench. “That made it easier for me to get through the chapters when I went to school.”

I felt heat start to pool low and a blush start to crawl up my neck. "About his ability to make himself everyone's problem." "Well, that tracks. At least from the little bit I've known him." She leaned closer to Rowan's section and started reading the titles off like she was browsing a bookstore. The books were a chaotic mix, some genuinely useful, others questionably so, but all jammed together in no particular order. She pointed to the first spine, reading it outloud, her voice dripping with judgement. "How to Win and Argument Without Throwing a Punch."

* She thought with a smile as she walked across the room. Because of her regular visit to his office during the first week of work, she felt familiar enough to walk around and not feel nervous. Her encounters with him also made her feel settled. "Even though he acts like someone who has bipolar disorder sometimes, he is still kind." She found herself saying out loud as she opened a book which she found interesting from his shelf. The title of the book was "Think And Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. She was so fascinated in the last page of the book and the thoughts swirling in her head that she wasn't aware of her surroundings anymore.

he said, choosing his words carefully, “he never needed to command people directly, he only needed to shape the environment around them until their decisions naturally aligned with his outcomes.” I frowned slightly. “That sounds like something people say when they want to make someone sound larger than life,” I said. Victor met my eyes without hesitation. “It is not about making him larger,” he replied, “it is about understanding how invisible influence works when it is done correctly.” That phrase stayed with me longer than I expected. Invisible influence. It sounded theoretical until I started mentally replaying moments I had once dismissed as coincidence. Small approvals I gave without fu

I recommend that you read this book," he said and brought out a book titled 'Understanding men' by Taire Stephen. As she collected the book from him, he went on, "This book will give you more insights and explanations to many things you want to know about men. Don't give up on love, Winner. It's so beautiful. It's good to have a partner you love and trust and who loves you in return. So my dear, give it one more chance and you won't regret it," Desmond urged with an assuring smile. "Thanks a lot. I should say I feel more at ease and convinced now after listening to you. Thanks for the book as well. How much is it?" Winner asked.

The books on the shelf were neatly arranged but the frayed edges and the little tears on the bottom of most of the books gave out that they’d been read a couple times. Adrian didn't particularly strike me as someone who would love to read but I guess you can't always judge a person by their outward appearance. I traced my fingers along the spines, the titles ranging widely from classic literature, to mindset guides then to business strategy books. One title in particular caught my eye and I pulled it out : Good to Great by Jim Collins. I flipped through the pages not so sure of what I was looking for, because I wasn't interested in reading the book at the time, but it was an appropriate dist

I turn my head around to check what is under my mini drawer, only to see a book with a dominant red on its cover page. “Sometimes you win, Sometimes you Learn…” I read loudly. I tilted my head. “Did I bought one like this before?” I asked myself since I don’t remember reading this book from before. But if it isn’t mine, then why is this here inside my place? Shoving all of my questions, I pulled the chair in front of my vanity mirror and decided to check the content. A little smile showed in my face when I realized something from the title. There is a Lose behind the word Learn and it is written with black ink. I flip on the next pages and it first have notes from the Author named John C. Ma

You'll find a pretty clear split in the reviews on Goodreads, honestly. A whole bunch of folks credit it with genuinely changing their life, saying the core principles about listening and making others feel important fixed their sales career or their strained office dynamics. They call it foundational.

But then there's the other camp that dismisses it as dated, manipulative, or superficial. They argue it teaches you to perform friendliness for gain, not to actually be a decent person. I've seen so many comments about the anecdotes feeling like they're from a different century. The people who love it usually say you have to look past the old-timey examples to the timeless psychology, which, fair point, I guess.

My own copy is full of highlighter, but I also cringe a little at some of the stories. It works, but it's a product of its era for sure.
