Book Review Picture Novels & Stories

It looked so old that it was practically falling apart at the seams. I was careful as I opened it, my pulse thundering away. This had to be magical, that was the only way I would have been drawn to a book in a locked drawer. The moment I opened it though, the excitement died. I couldn't understand anything. Another dead language. But I continued leafing through it when I noticed unlike the others, it had pictures. I saw a picture of a garden. A picture of a woman standing with her back to seven women kneeling to her. Another of a woman standing with her back straight and arm outstretched and six wolves surrounding her.

she murmured under her breath, pulling it from the shelf. The leather creaked as she opened the book. The pages were yellowed and delicate, and they carried the unmistakable weight of time. She flicked through them slowly, careful not to cause any tears. The illustrations it held were beautiful ink drawings of thick forests, full moons, animals that looked almost… too detailed. Too intelligent. Then a page stopped her. An elaborate drawing of a clearing, large, ringed by ancient trees. She squinted. It looked oddly familiar.

I turned the picture to see the date and it was of the first year after we were separated. The second picture was of her in a library. She was looking at the camera with an open book in her hand. The book was upside down and I erupted in a fit of giggles. Bella was never the one to read books, she always preferred movies over books saying that ‘books are written first then the movie is made after so why not just save time and watch a movie?’. Austin looked at me with a faint smile on his lips and I showed him the picture explaining it to him.

She looked at the book in her hand and went back to the shelf, before putting it back she opened it for once. It was a photo book, Chloe have seen Dave's childhood pictures knew before. From the very first glance, she knew it was Dave's pictures from when his parents were still alive, it was a family picture book. Thinking it of something that can't be used, she put it back. But a few pictures fell from the book, she picked them up. She noticed a picture, Dave was standing with a boy looking a little older than him, must be some friend, thinking, she ignored the picture and went back to the desk. she could hear the maid knocking on her door.

What book is that? Jai leaned over to the front and took the book from the cushion to examine it. It was light and a bit thin. There was a picture in the cover that looked like a forest, and a small boy was in the picture, picking some mushrooms. The title was written in artistic way, like a children book would.

Cole left the room and Kate stood up from her seat and went to one of the cupboards in her room which contains most of her things. Opening one of the compartments, she took a book that was there and flipped through the pages till she got to a page which had a picture in it. She took out the picture and kept the book back, staring at the picture a smile broke out on her face as she traced her hands on it. It was a picture of a small boy who was standing beside a snowman and was smiling brightly at the camera.

And he had a long nose that looked like a cursive L – L. “Sal Maan Roos Dee. He is a big writer. One of the biggest of all times. This man, see,” revealed my brother, showing the back cover of the book he had in his hands. The passport size photograph of the man on the back cover was exactly like the man I saw in my visions. I AM NOT KIDDING! I mean it! The front cover read: “An Extraordinary Novel” – The New York Review of Books ________________________________________________ MIDNIGHT’S CHILDREN

Standing up from the bed, I dragged my feet to the bookshelf and picked out a history book from there before going to sit on the bed. Opening the book, I almost screamed my lungs out at the image I was welcomed by. There were pictures of wild animals and some were humans with dangerous and scary faces, some had long teeth in their mouths, while some of them had some part of their eyes painted bloodred. I gulped down the lump in my throat, as I flipped the book page by page, checking out the images which getting scarier.
