A plot summary always feels like the obvious first box to check, but I’ve learned to keep mine painfully short. I used to write these rambling synopses that basically retold the whole story. Now I limit myself to three sentences max—just enough to jog my memory about the basic premise and where the main conflict starts. The real meat for me is in the 'Character Dynamics' and 'Pacing Notes' sections.

I have a whole grid for character relationships and how they shift by the end. Did the rivalry turn to respect? Was the romance earned or forced? I scribble in the margins about who felt real and who was just a plot device. The pacing notes are messier, just little arrows pointing to sections where the story dragged or where I stayed up way too late because I couldn't put it down.

Then there's the 'Random Vibes' box at the bottom. That's where I put the stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else—the specific atmosphere, a side character's weird habit I adored, or a quote that just nailed a feeling. It's the least structured part, but flipping back through old reviews, those are often the details that bring the whole book rushing back.

A detailed character map always clarifies relationships I'd otherwise forget. I sketch them on the back of any review sheet I use. For plot, a basic timeline with major turning points works, but I add a separate column for how characters influence each event. That's where the real insights emerge, when you see who's actually pulling the strings versus who's just reacting.

Tried those fancy aesthetic journal spreads, but they're more about the look than analysis. My go-to is messy: a simple two-page spread in a cheap notebook. Left page gets the timeline and key plot mechanics. Right page is all character—motivations at the start, changes by the midpoint, and where they end up. Seeing it side-by-side shows if the plot serves the character arcs or runs over them.

Book reviews are my favorite way to share thoughts on what I’ve read. They’re not just summaries but personal reactions—what made me laugh, cry, or throw the book across the room. A good review digs into the characters, like how Frodo’s journey in 'The Lord of the Rings' feels exhausting yet inspiring, or why Hermione from 'Harry Potter' is a role model. I focus on pacing, too; some books drag (looking at you, 'Moby Dick'), while others, like 'The Hunger Games', grip you from page one. Reviews help others decide if a book’s worth their time, and honestly, they’re fun to write. It’s like gossiping about fictional people.
