He continued toward the bus, climbing the stairs, leaving Ellie to stare after him in surprise. Ellie climbed back on the bus, avoiding Jake's gaze and finding her seat in the last row. She pulled out her chips, opened the bag, and put her headphones back in. Her mood hadn't improved much so she found a new classic audiobook. Ah, yes, there it was, Dickens always had a dreary narrative to fit her mood, a perfect fit following her upsetting realization that she would quite literally never escape the world of wolves. She turned the book on and stared out the window:

a deep voice read behind me, his breath warm against my ear. I jumped, nearly dropping the book. “Christian!” I slapped the page as I turned around. “Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” He burst into laughter, loud, unfiltered amusement echoing through the stone-walled archive like a damn drum. “‘Bestowed upon Alpha Theron Blackwood…’” he read in a singsong voice, peering over my shoulder. “Wow, this stuff is riveting. Did you write the footnotes yourself?” “Oh my god,” I muttered, my pulse racing. “It’s not funny.”

Danger. I turned. And there she was. The librarian. Standing at the door, her frail frame outlined by the torchlight. Her eyes wide, mouth parted in shock. I stiffened, caught mid-theft like a pup with blood on his muzzle. “Well,” I said dryly, closing the book with exaggerated calm. “This is awkward.” Her lips trembled. “W-who are you? What are you doing...” I lifted a hand. “Shhh. I’m the friendly neighborhood bookworm. Here to… improve my literacy.”

His tanned skin contrasted with his orange shirt. "Good morning, Ma'am. You look so beautiful in the morning." His eyes almost disappeared because of his wide smile. "Morning." I smiled a bit. I went to the bench and sat there. I opened the book that I found at the library. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I glanced at Sandro when he sat beside me. I just smiled at him before dropping my gaze on the book. "I did not know that you love reading," he commented. "Yup," I responded, eyes remained on the book.

I closed my eyes, trembling as tears escaped and fell into the food. "Happy birthday, Eleanor Shaw," I whispered to myself. "Keep moving forward—onward forever. Even if no one loves you, there's still light at the end of the tunnel. As Jeffrey said, you have enjoyed over 20 wonderful years of wealth and privilege. You've had it good." Just like that, I repeated words of comfort to myself as I wiped away my tears. I moved all my belongings that I had sorted out over the past two weeks in the living room.

However, the intern reporter immediately sensed something was wrong, so she secretly recorded everything. That very night, an article appeared on a local Brookhaven forum with the headline: "The Inspirational Girl Who Claimed Her Cousin Hid Her Admission Ticket Actually Stole Her Cousin's Score". The piece maintained a remarkably level-headed tone, focusing on presenting a clear sequence of facts. Firstly, Naomi Gibson's actual exam score wwasn't the one she'd implied online. Secondly, the real guest of honor at the party should have been Stella Morrow who never showed up at the event.

I spent a few minutes before going to the counter at the front to check out the books I connected my air pods to my phone and turned on my playlist as I waited for Jonathan to pack the books for me I watched him package the book...
