Beta Rowan burst into my introspection as he unlocked a long brown door with a beige plaque - Library. I nodded and stepped into the room. My lips parted in surprise as I scanned the library. Tall shelves stretched across the wall filled with countless ancient books ranging from medicinal journals to history books to romance novels to classics and lots more. It smelt strongly of dust and the walls were covered in colorful wallpapers depicting scenes from battles and adventure. He offered me a smile as I scanned the room. "Wow. It's so big." I exclaimed. "It is actually and it has a lot of books. Niklaus loves reading a lot." Beta Rowan chuckled.

A clue led me to an old hidden library, where, among its dusty shelves, I found an old book, covered with secrets and mysteries. My heart accelerated as I opened the book and started reading the pages yellowed by time. What was written there revealed the true origin of the categories beyond the border, a secret hidden for centuries. As I immersed myself in the words, my inner world seemed to fall apart. The truth was more complex and profound than I had ever imagined. The alpha, beta and omega categories were not only a natural division, but a meticulously designed system.

I knew my parents weren’t home, so I opened the door and led Oly to the study that was still covered in books. “My dad loaned me his study when I got back, he had another office built in our spare bedroom a few years ago that’s closer to his bedroom, and mom, so he doesn’t use this one. A few hours in the pack library and then a few more diving into those books, and I found out everything I needed to know.” The pack library was really the kingdom library. It had fiction, nonfiction, childrens books, like a normal library. Except it also had a history section, and that was where all the books about our species, our kingdom, our pack, all of it were.

Catherine just stood there, watching me like I was a child throwing a tantrum over nothing. When she finally moved, it was to walk toward one of the book racks lining the walls. That's when I really looked at where we were. Some kind of library, but not a public one. More like storage. Books everywhere—on shelves, piled on the floor, stacked on a small table with a single chair. The window I'd seen earlier was the only source of natural light. Catherine pushed aside several books on the shelf, revealing something hidden behind them. A small compartment in the wall. She pulled out a book—leather-bound, worn at the edges.

This was a shared space and deserved more respect. The problem is I don’t know much about library science. It’s a dying art, but it would be helpful. Without this knowledge, I decided to do the most genius thing I could think of. Organize first by genre and then by author alphabetically, since I didn’t see numbers on the books. Or labels of any kind. I noted that in the back of my head. We should get on it. Plus, that means I have a good reason to buy a label maker. I missed mine. It got lost when they moved my things.

Ellie’s POV The library was smaller than I expected, really just one long room at the back of the meeting house. But it was packed full, the shelves stretching all the way from the floor to the ceiling. Small, but mighty; exactly what I needed. The section on local plant life was tucked between a section on historical accounts and fiction novels, which was an interesting method of organization, to say the least. To my dismay, there were only three books in the entire section. Not so mighty, I supposed.

“No, don't bother. I think we'll be alright on our own.” “Alright, do enjoy your time.” She seemed relieved as she went back to whatever it was that she was doing before our arrival. Shaking my head and chuckling inwardly, I led Clinton deeper into the library. There were only a few people who were browsing for what they came here for. The section we wanted wasn’t difficult to find. There were signs for romance, thrillers, mysteries, and histories at the top of each section. I ran my fingers along each book, nodding in satisfaction when they came up dust-free.

James had no concept of indoor voice when he was performing. "This is the market." August was pointing at a cluster of blue blocks with the authority of a tiny city planner. "And this is the library. I let out a long breath I didn’t know I was holding, and walked toward the library. The room was huge, with tall shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling, filled with thousands of books. There were books about history, science, art, and politics, but most of all, there were books and files about business, finance, and power. They were arranged perfectly, organized in ways that made sense only to someone who knew how the world worked.

I set it face-down on the kitchen counter and tell myself I am not panicking. I find the library. It is a real one, with floor to ceiling shelves on three walls, a rolling ladder on a brass rail, two leather chairs angled toward each other near a window. The books are organized by subject. Law. Economics. History. A full shelf of philosophy. A smaller section at the end — fiction, which surprises me, though I cannot say why. I pull out one of the novels and read the first page standing up. I put it back. I cannot concentrate. My mind is too busy.
