The Tyrant alpha

The Tyrant alpha

I can’t explain it, but I don’t have to, either, if I don’t bring it up, and I’m not one to ever start conversations. I sniff the paperback—old, musty paper, glue, and Justus—and set it on the pallet. The next book in the pile, Peter Kropotkin’s The Conquest of Bread, has a picture of two men chopping down a tree on the cover. It smells the same. All the books are dog-eared paperbacks with yellowed pages—Walden by Henry David Thoreau, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, Critique of Practical Reason by Immanuel Kant, several each by Ursula K. Le Guin and N. K. Jemison, and a massive hardback of Plato’s collected works. The Plato is the only one that looks like it hasn’t been read a hundre

Wouldn’t be appropriate of me as her new employer, obviously. Moving a small bundle of paperbacks—poetry collections, WB Yeats, Robert Frost, Walt Whitman—I notice a rectangular piece of paper the size of a postcard lying at the bottom of the box. I set the poetry collections aside and pick it up. Of course, I have seen several Yellow Cabs patrolling the streets of Clifton Heights. But I’ve never ridden in one and I don’t pay much attention to them. I don’t plan on doing so anytime soon, nor am I contemplating a trip out to the old Shelby Road Cemetery or Bassler House, looking for strange symbols on doorknobs.

Mated to the Alpha Knight

Mated to the Alpha Knight

An hour later, after searching for anything to help us within books that ranged from brand new to hundreds of years old, I huffed with disappointment and decided to stretch my legs; my pale finger trailed over the spines of books, dust painting my fingertip. Once I reached the poetry section, I smiled brightly. All around me were books from Silvia Plath, Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickson, Robert Frost, and many others that were like my old friends. Taking a random book off the shelf, I flipped through its contents. "(...) Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home." ~ Tecumseh "You enjoy poetry too?" A familiar voice spoke behind me, making my heart speed up as I jumped slightly. Turn

Good story but some events that occurred had no impact on the story and I wondered why they were included unless it’s revealed in the next book, e.g., the Truth Lake 🤷🏻‍♀️ when she got bitten by the snake in the lake, what did that all mean🤷🏻‍♀️ Mind I did skim read a lot of it so could have mis

The Alpha's Babysitter

The Alpha's Babysitter

Her work at the local bookstore, once a mundane routine, now felt infused with a sense of meaning. She found herself drawn to the poetry section, her fingers tracing the spines of books she had never explored before. She discovered the delicate beauty of Emily Dickinson's words, the raw emotion of Sylvia Plath's verse, and the lyrical prose of Langston Hughes. Each poem, a window into a different soul, resonated with her own experiences, her own struggles and triumphs.

Masked Desire

Masked Desire

"Classic power move." We continue like this for another hour, following research threads that lead to discussions about political theory, social engineering, the ways language shapes perception of power dynamics. It's intellectually stimulating in ways I've craved my entire life but rarely found - someone who can match my analytical thinking while bringing perspectives I'd never considered. "You should read this," Jason says suddenly, pulling a slim volume from a nearby shelf. "Poetry collection. Seventeenth century omega poet who wrote about resistance and survival." I take the book skeptically. "Poetry? That's not really my area."

The First of My Kind

The First of My Kind

Novels, grimoires, Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickinson. Wait, what? The Emily Dickinson? She hid most of her poems until the day she died, but looking at this book, holding it, it feels like everything she had written is in here. It's a lot, there were still poems of her that I haven't read yet, I never knew about its existence until now. I quickly opened the book and the pages were amazing, you know that scent of old books? This one has it, that one familiar scent of home, of comfortability, of coffee in the early morning while it's raining. I stopped on a particular poem, one I've read over and over again. I'm Nobody! Who are you?

Silent Flames, Forbidden Paths

Silent Flames, Forbidden Paths

It was the way he seemed to encircle me, always there, never too close, never too far, his presence both reassuring and suffocating. I sat up, hugging my knees to my chest. The room was quiet, save for Mia’s soft breathing from the bunk above me. She’d fallen asleep ages ago, blissfully unaware of my emotional turmoil. Lucky her, or lucky me, don’t know! I glanced around our tiny, shared space, hoping for a distraction. The walls were covered in mismatched posters—Mia’s were bright and cheerful, featuring K-pop stars with jawlines sharper than my wit. Mine were moodier: abstract art and a single poster of an old movie Ethan had forced me to watch. It was called ‘Dead Poets Society’, and I’d

I stated through the walkie, noting the four zombie like ex humans that were half hidden in the ally we drove passed. “How many?” Wheeler questioned. “Four that I saw, was only a glimpse though.” I stated. “Okay keep pace just keep a look out, we'll slow if we need to.” He stated as I continued to scan. “I've got two.” Porter stated. “Clear here.” “Clear.” I echoed Wheeler not seeing any more. “Is it me or has something changed?” Porter questioned. “What does he mean?” I asked my eyes still focused out the window. “He means that this feels different. The dead don't group they wonder, mostly alone, especially this far from a major city.” Bubble answered my question as Jake responded through t
