Too bad that useless professor was MIA at the moment, l would have given him a proper farewell - a punch to his perfect nose. As l was walking, l stopped for a moment then looked at the papers. Standing still , l flipped through the papers until I found what I was looking for. It was my housing situation, it looked like the dean had me sharing a house near the campus with four other girls. I didn't know anymore but I still couldn't wait to meet them.

I turned the page I was reading and put the book on my desk. There was an unusual movement in the house next door because a new family was moving. Before leaving for college in the morning, I caught a glimpse of a moving truck that had brought their furniture, but apparently they had already finished moving their things. I was curious to know who my new neighbors were, but I assumed that in due course I would meet them. I closed the front door of my house and went to a cafeteria that was around the corner.

I went to my window and opened the drapes and window for the very first time this month. I turned my gaze towards the skies, that I could clearly see the lovely stars, and then I began to pull my gaze towards the house next to another. When I realized that the other house had been sold, I turned and looked at it. They're supposed to be our new residents, as Mom mentioned earlier, based also on unopened parcels and cartons. I spotted a couple at the window and thought they were lovely and happy. The huge windows with a cradle stand just across from my room, indicating that the family has a baby.

Emily flashes a fake smile. Confused, Anna straightens her posture and focuses all her attention on Emily. “By the way, when I was on my way in, I bumped against a suspicious-looking guy at the gate. Did you know him?” Emily stands up and heads to the kitchen to get a bowlful of grapes. While on her way out, she explains, “Suspicious-looking? Oh, the one with an expensive car parked outside? He was just a random bloke who sent us an invitation to his cocktail party. I'm not really sure, but I think he now owns the mansion next to our unit.”

he said, pulling his phone out to send a warning text to his roommate. Brooklyn and Cort walked to the nearby cafe for lunch and sat down at one of the outside tables after they’d gotten their food. “Do you come here often?” Cort asked, setting his tray down on the table. “Often enough,” Brooklyn said, sitting down. “Why do you ask?” “They just seem to know you here,” he said, sitting across from her. Smiling at him as she unwrapped her silverware, she said, “Okay, I like to come here when I come to the library. I research my articles here, and I like to read.”

He closed the door behind him and I blew some air from my mouth in a sigh. Dinner time arrived almost within the blink of an eye, and I was dumbstruck at how time quickly flew by. Ana showed me the huge library that collected books of every genre and I was delighted to find Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I had never read the story before, so I thought to give it a try since I had nothing more to do.

Steve nods at me as if to say hi but just keeps walking, still talking with my friends, passing me, like I don’t matter at all. … I’m sitting on my porch swing when I hear a car pull in the driveway next door. I keep my back to the house, hoping if I do, they’ll just disappear. “Hola, Emily!” Brenda calls from next door. It’s not her fault her son is a jerk, so I figure I don’t have an excuse not to reply to her.

I'd been so distracted that I broke some dishes while cleaning and the maids had to politely push me out before I broke anymore. That evening, after a tense, quiet dinner, I retreated to the small library. I needed to think, away from the worried glances of Preya and away from Luciano’s watchful eye. Slowly, I walked to the shelf, picking up a book which I could see at a glance was about the Moongoddess. I settled back into one of the armchairs close to the fireplace, and flipped the book open, not to read, just to have something to fiddle with my hands.
