Booktok He Leaned Against The Doorframe Romane & Geschichten

He hadn’t moved, not really, but his presence filled the narrow hallway like smoke. My heart pounded. I said nothing. I reached the door and pulled it open. “Here it is,” I said too quickly. “They keep all the old books and things in here. The light switch is on the right. Just watch your step—the floor’s uneven. And there’s a shelf that leans weird if you touch it, so—” I turned to look at him. He still hadn’t said anything. He just watched me. I licked my lips and looked at the wall. “You can take whatever you need. I’ll just—”

Dust motes, disturbed by our violent entry, danced in the few slivers of gray light that cut through the grimy, high-set windows, illuminating a vast, shadowy expanse of towering bookshelves that receded into an abyssal darkness. The door, splintered around the lock, wouldn’t latch. Jake immediately threw his weight against it, his boots skidding on the polished marble floor. “It won’t hold! I need to brace it!” he grunted, the strain evident in his voice as the door shuddered under an impact from the other side. A pale, grasping hand shot through the gap, fingers clawing at the air.

After he had gotten on it, he helped me up. With the anger that had filled him, he rode violently back through the narrow path, the horse galloping as if it wanted to tear the ground apart. As we got back to Alpha Jake's Fort, we headed straight to the chamber. Right behind the door, after we had opened it, was a book on the ground. It wasn't just any book, I could tell it was familiar while looking at it from my standing position. It was opened and it seemed like someone had just written on the last page, waiting for the ink to dry up.

But the elusive book was nowhere to be found. I became frustrated when I realized that my quest might have been in vain. The book might have been put elsewhere, away from Leo's chamber. I heard footsteps moving closer to the door just as uncertainty started to set in. I swiftly withdrew to a room corner after experiencing panic, my heart racing. I hoped whoever was outside wouldn't come inside and find me. The door squeaked open as the doorknob turned. Leo entered with a look that was equal parts weary and determined. He appeared to be deep in contemplation as he walked into the room, seemingly oblivious to my presence.

That era of my life needs to end. I stare blankly at the pages for God knows how long, until I hear a shuffling sound by the door. “Didn’t take you for a bookworm,” Angelo muses. In my peripheral vision, I see him leaning against the doorframe, his hands in his pockets. I smirk to myself, not looking up. I’m not really sure what to say, and frankly, I wanted to be alone. But I can’t tell him that. Besides, he’s seen me at my worst already. I feel like, right now, I can show him my weak side without fear.

What in the heck was in that thing? “I may not have my mate with me but I have my guards, help!” I scream turning to the door so they would hear me, in seconds the door gets opened but Jonathan picks up the chest of drawers and throws it at the door, trapping us in but the guards out. “Unexpected guards, I never invited them.” Jonathan says laughing as I hear the guards attempting to break through the door to get us, but having major trouble. “I’m here for the book.” Jonathan says causing me to look over at him, I didn’t want to give him the book and I also couldn’t, the book isn’t here.

[You like your men smiling while murdering and choking people against marble walls? Interesting.] Another ping. [Page 248 though? Bold of you.] I burst into the staff quarters, hurrying down the hallway, heels clicking unlady-like towards my apartment. And there he was. Leaning against my doorframe, shirtless with a towel hanging loosely around his waist, holding my book…no, Sarah's book in one hand and eating strawberries. His eyes lifted lazily from the pages he seemed to be reading, to mine.

I settled on one about a warrior and his lover, fighting through the brick of war together. I sat on the floor; my back pressed against the frame of the bed with the book clutched in my hands when he knocked. "One second!" I called out, panic quickly seeping in through my words. My hands scrambled to find a hiding place for the book – I hadn't asked whether I could take it. I shoved it behind my back, hoping my frame would cover it completely. He appeared in my door frame after a few moments of waiting. I was impressed that he even bothered to wait, instead of just barging in and demanding whatever he came here for.

Nothing like losing yourself in a book when things get tough. Kasey lay across the couch lazily as she flipped to the next page of the book. She had been reading for about two hours before a loud bang snapped her to look towards the main door. A snarl came from the other side of the door as the person on the other side struggled to open the door. She was quick to sit up and stare anxiously as the door finally opened, Shobek trotted in and slammed the door closed. Her fear dissipated as she watched him stroll over to the bed and flop down on it. She carefully checked the page number she was on and set the book down on the coffee table.
