The air grew colder, the soil beneath our boots turning to hard, cracked earth. By the time we crossed into the Borderlands proper, the sun was low, bleeding orange light across the horizon. The land here was barren, stripped of life, as if something had drained it dry centuries ago. Kael halted at a ridge, scanning the jagged valley below. “The ruins are there,” he said, nodding toward a scatter of stone half-buried in shadow. I followed his gaze and frowned. The ruins looked like the bones of some massive creature—arches and pillars jutting from the ground at odd angles, broken walls still etched with faint, unfamiliar symbols.

It was releasing a vibe that tickled Zheira’s skin. Louise opened his lips, changed his mind, and then closed it again. With a last glare, he dragged the girl toward the portal. Zheira bit her lips. The girl must have been in real pain. After all, it’s not easy to be dragged into the rough ground.

After Boyd’s threat, we call through our mind-link that all available warriors join their respective border patrol immediately. Suddenly twenty warriors left the room, heading to the borders for additional support. Just in case Boyd’s threat was beyond what we had planned for.

Chapter 51: Wandering Luna POV: Ariana The borderlands were no place for the faint of heart. They stretched beyond the safety of pack borders, beyond the watchful eyes of humans who traded loyalty for gold. Dust rose like smoke from the dry earth, tangled with the scent of rain-soaked soil, carrion, and wild musk. Wolves moved in the shadows, cautious, wary of humans and rogue packs that stalked them. I walked among them unseen, a ghost in the wind, a whisper in the night.

We splashed in without hesitation, the shock of icy water driving the exhaustion temporarily from my bones. "Downstream," Prince Rhett directed. "Let the current carry us. Save energy." We floated in silence for what felt like hours but was probably only thirty minutes. Long enough for my teeth to chatter. Long enough for hypothermia to become a real threat. Finally, Marcus gestured toward the eastern bank. "There. That rock formation marks the Borderland boundary. Father's authority ends here." We dragged ourselves onto muddy shore, soaked and shivering but alive. "We made it," Darius said, disbelief coloring his voice. "We actually made it."

And the two men fate kept trying to separate. The forest changed the farther they moved south - thicker, darker, swollen with roots that curled like sleeping creatures. By dawn, Leo and Cris had crossed into the Silent Borderlands, a stretch of land so old and untouched that even kingdoms avoided claiming it. Cris slowed first. “Stop,” he whispered. Leo halted beside him. Their boots had pressed into snow that wasn’t snow - clusters of pale dust that shimmered whenever the wind brushed through. It coated their shoulders, glimmering faintly like the residue of forgotten magic.

Third Person Limited — Bella Bella stared at her hands. They looked the same. Slightly scraped. A faint bruise forming along her knuckles from earlier training. Yet the chamber had obeyed her. She pushed herself slowly to her feet, legs unsteady but holding. The groove in the floor dimmed completely, the symbols retreating into the stone as if they’d never lit up at all. Silence stretched. “Repeat the sequence,” Elder Morren said. Bella laughed, short and sharp. “No.”

(Lena POV) The borderland was easier the second time. The terrain held no surprises now. I knew where the ground dipped behind the first tree line, knew where the thornbush thickened and needed skirting rather than pushing through, knew the sound the wind made in this particular canopy which was different from the sound it made anywhere else, lower and more continuous, like something breathing. I found the outpost by the shape of it against the sky, the broken roofline visible through the branches. I didn't stop. I used it as a landmark and kept moving northeast, toward the rock shelf, toward the marker.
