Earth disappeared. Not slow. Not with a crack or warning. Just like that. Mara felt heaviness for a moment. Then she fell. Next to her Jonas. Eva. Lyra. Stone walls ran past them. The very earth seemed to groan in agony as the floor of the vault, built on a hollow pocket of the sea cave, finally surrendered to gravity. The world tilted. Marcus let out a cry of surprise as the stone beneath him disintegrated. He lunged forward, trying to grab the edge of the safe, but the entire section of the room was sliding into the abyss. "Dante!" Marcus screamed, his hand outstretched. Dante reached out, a reflex born of thirty years of loyalty, but Ivy grabbed his belt, hauling him back toward the ventilation shaft. "The vent! Now!" The floor vanished. One moment they were standing on solid ground; the next, they were falling into a churning vortex of white water and black rock.

He’s here. Then the ground under me cracked. I stumbled back as snow collapsed into a hidden pit, jagged stone lining its walls. I grabbed at a root, my dagger falling from my hand. “Serena!” someone shouted. The shadow darted closer, its form rippling like smoke. A whisper slid through my mind: Fall. I’ll catch you. “No!” I hissed aloud. But the root snapped. I fell. The pit was deeper than I’d thought. I hit the bottom hard, pain flaring up my side. Above me, the circle of sky seemed impossibly far.

I looked around for something, anything, any idea is better than doing nothing right now, and then something snapped. I pointed my finger at the ground beneath the portal, creating a deep, black pit with a mouth wider than the portal above that would reach a few miles deep beneath the surface. It mirrored the power of the portal, only stronger, much stronger. Everything the portal sucked earlier returned and was drawn towards the black pit with intense speed. While my finger remains pointed to the ground, the hole digs deeper. I positioned my other hand in Baltazar’s direction and created a vortex by moving my arms in a circular motion.

The weight of the server racks, once held by magnetic stability, collapsed under the sudden power death, dragging the floor down with it. Pim felt herself falling. She grabbed for something, anything, and her hand locked onto Chalida’s wrist. "Pim!" Chalida’s scream was lost in the roar of collapsing concrete and twisting steel. They plummeted through the darkness, the air whistling past them, smelling of ozone and ozone-charred silk. As the floor gave way, they could still hear the double's chilling voice behind them: “Fall again, fox. Fall until even she can’t find you.” Camela screamed as the pit grew wider. Just as Sloane lunged towards me, a massive mechanical klaxon tore through the air. It was deafening. The red emergency lights cut out, plunging the corridor into pitch – black sensory deprivation. The floor beneath my feet didn't just shift – it dropped entirely. My stomach lurched as gravity abandoned me. I fell quickly through the dark, the rush of cold air whipping my hair around my face. I hit a steep, smooth metal chute. I slid downward at terrifying speed, twisting and turning through the bowels of the island’s subterranean infrastructure.
