103. Brandon's POV. I’d been cooped up in my room for hours, flipping through these heavy old history books that smelled like a mix of dust and ancient ink. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure why I kept bothering. I’d already gone through what felt like half of my father's library, probably more, and I still hadn’t found anything useful. None of it explained what Aaron was. What he did. The powers he had. The weird smell that followed him around. Or how his body just burst into flames like it was never meant to stay in this world.

Grey muttered. He was ignored. "And I am the moderator of this wonderful bookclub. I hope we have a blast as we come together to experience the beauty of reading. We'll start with introductions. Let's start with you, young man." He gestured to Brandon and sat on an empty seat next to the cookies. Brandon smirked. "My name is Brandon Cecil Knight." "Middle name fucking rhymes with sissy. Fucking perfect." "No interruptions please, hold any opinions till after we've all said our names."

"What's wrong with you, Brandon? What's your ability?" Bradon's gaze turned distant for a moment. He had never tried it in his past life because, before he could master it, he died. "I have dual abilities—control over wind and metal," he told Liam truthfully. "I discovered it when you were asleep last night at the pharmacy." Sensing Brandon's words seemed to be real, Liam couldn't help but feel awe and appreciation. He hesitated. "Can you show me?" he asked, almost whispering. "Your ability, I mean."

That had to be the dumbest idea he had ever heard. "Well, did you at least talk to Sandino?" Brandon asked, drinking from a water bottle, making himself a part of the conversation. "Yes. I mean, he pretty much said that I had nothing to worry about. That he and Kahlan are just friends and nothing more." "Do you believe him?" Jason asked next. Chad thought it over. Sandino was his best friend. He wouldn't lie to him, no matter what. Even if he was to have some sort of feelings for Kahlan, he was sure that he would be upfront about it.

Ambrose pointed out. “I never said he is a PERFECT person. He is an arrogant, short-tempered, boring, and intelligent old man.” Theodore talked about Brandon and wondered how a man like him was blessed with a daughter who had a heart of gold. But then, Brandon was married to Sophia, a person whose exact replica was his mate, except for that part that Liara didn't have a habit of speaking a lot while Sophia was non-stop radio.
