I lay in a mangled heap and grasp for air, mouth opening and body trying, but I’m like a fish out of water. Unable to do anything at all except whine under my breath, and claw weakly at the dirt around me, trying like crazy to inflate my lungs even an inch. My shoulder’s wet from a severe set of puncture wounds that extend up onto the side of my neck, and I know it’s probably my jugular that’s making the flow so intense. The throbbing coming from there, in time to my low and weak heartbeat, pulsing out my blood with every thud.

While squinting out into my black surrounds, I swayed back and forth and mentally went over each bodily component one by one. Following a cursory assessment, my shoulder ached, and I knew it was bothering me. The ankle was a little swollen but it’s nothing to worry about, it just appeared to be broken. My hand reached towards the back of my neck. I felt the curves of my head once more the injury, my eyes were drawn to a flare.

“It felt fine, so I–” “Blair, the x-ray was reported as a fracture dislocation. If you’d have stayed in, or even given us your real contact details you would have known that, and you could have–” “Fracture?” I whispered. Suddenly the ongoing pain in my left shoulder was making sense. I had thought it was just because all the ligaments and muscles and stuff had taken a beating when they shoved it back in its socket. I’d never had to worry about sustaining injuries of this magnitude, thanks to my wolf, so I’d assumed I just needed time to let the arm heal properly.

She clenched her hands tightly as every muscle in her body tightened, and the gauze covering her shoulder slowly got soaked in blood. Meanwhile, Marcus’ expression became more and more serious as his forehead got sweatier.

His thumb gently shifted my cloth to move the fabric away from my neck and shoulder, allowing him to see the redness very well. His face hardened instantly, every ounce of exhaustion draining away. "Rhea," he asked, his voice low and dangerously quiet. "What happened to your shoulder? Why is your arm and shoulder so red?”

With only my bra on, I turned toward the mirror. My eyes narrowed when I saw it. The bruise was worse than I had expected. A deep, ugly purple spread across my shoulder, the edges mottled, a faint smear of dried blood staining the skin. It looked swollen, angry, as if it had its own pulse. I inhaled slowly and began searching through the drawers for ointment. My fingers moved too fast, knocking against bottles and hairpins. There were still so many things left to buy. And one of them should have been this.

The air began to run out, my vision blurred, and my mind gave way, shutting down. The cold penetrated my bones, and my body shuddered uncontrollably, slowly bringing me back to my harsh reality. My muscles were so tense that my whole body was numb. My fingers throbbed as if they were about to explode, and painful currents extended from there to my arms, joining on the left side with the pain that consumed my shattered shoulder.

“God—” My hand flew to my temple, fingers pressing hard like I could hold my head together, like it wasn’t about to split open. The movement tugged at something else, and a sharp, tearing ache ripped through my shoulder. “Holy shit!“ I cussed under my breath, gripping my shoulder. The ache slowly spread from my shoulder down my arm in a hot, throbbing wave, stealing the strength from my fingers. My arm sagged uselessly at my side, heavy and wrong.

However, my siblings looked directly at my left shoulder, inspecting the damage there in pure horror. No one said a word as my hand was brought up to the spot to feel where the mark was, I felt the numbness in my shoulder as my hand went over the area and I winced at how odd it felt, it was as if it had swelled up largely against my neck and now it looked like I had a third shoulder. I knew it was red and an ugly shade of black as I ran over the two punctured holes where it sealed up and created a scar, it was jagged and it felt unnatural against my skin as I could feel my wolf's anger in my mind as I touched that area.

I reached Timberland running all the way till here briefly being in my thoughts, don't even I remember as to when that happened. "Okay, get up buddy." He helped me get on my legs but hell, the pain shot sharp down the length of my arm causing my muscle to contract and shrink in response of the pain. "Shit, you shoulder!" I looked at where he indicated. "Igh shit, that looks awful." whining at it I saw how badly have my skin slitted from along the line of collar bone ending right above my heart. He hissed regretfully seeing how my visible flesh moved as the blood oozes out like an aggressive river flowing during rainstorm. I attempted to pull together the slit and close it nonetheless it stai
