“That’s true. It did feel good, and I’d do it all over again if given a chance.” With his pointer finger in the air, Daniel wagged it back and forth as he lifted his chin to the door. “This is my kingdom.” His hand slapped at his chest as he moved towards her. “Mine. My word is the law here, and he broke the law.” The window he backed her against spilled a red light over his dark eyes, and for a moment, she saw the beast that dwelled within him. “This isn’t you.” She sniffed back her tears, and a whimper came from her quivering lips. “This isn’t who you are. Not the man who rocks our baby at night. Not the one who held me in the darkness through my screams. I don’t know who you are.”

Chapter 1 I woke slowly with my head pounding, feeling very disoriented. It was pitch black in my room as I opened my eyes. I reached over to turn my bedroom lamp on, but felt nothing. Where was my lamp? And then it all came back flooding to me. Liam kidnapped. Claire and the pack missing. The imprint.

As he pressed his face against hers, he said, “Next time, sweet pea, it’s forever. I’ll see you soon. Daddy loves you.” As Ben closed the door behind him, Haldir began to laugh his raspy, hearty laugh of amusement. “Oh Selvin. I guess you could say that this curse is finally broken. Just like your fucking skull is about to be.” Haldir knocked his knuckles against the top of Selvin’s head. “ Broken into a million fucking pieces.”

Around me, the Palace groaned— stone shifting, walls trembling, as if it felt the severing of its spine. Outside, the war howled louder. I did not look back at the corpse. I stepped toward the doorway instead, already thinking ahead. Liam would feel this soon. The Reigns would feel it all at once. The crown had broken. And something far colder was about to take its place. Perfect.

I screamed, light erupting from my eyes, my skin fracturing into silver lines. Everything disintegrated—the city, the army, Kael’s curses, Auren’s voice—until there was only that one truth pulsing through the mark: The Crown is broken. Long live the Queen. Then, silence. And darkness swallowed everything.

Eliora stood beside him, face streaked with ash and resolve.

A little deeper. And that was it. Roman broke.

“You're going to break yourself if you continue to keep it inside.” Cecilia turned, her eyes glinting with held-back feelings. “They turned their backs on me, Annie. My family, my pack. They threw me out like I was nothing.” Her voice trembled, and she collapsed onto a nearby chair, cradling her head in her hands. "How can I recover from that?" Annie crouched down next to her, gently resting a reassuring hand on her arm. "You are among the powerful wolves I have come across." And you’re not alone on this. You have me.”
