The One
He kneels beside me, his expression tight with determination.
“What are you doing?” I ask, my voice breaking as I clutch at River’s still form.
“Trust me,” Brook says simply, his voice steady. He holds his hands over River’s chest, the water gathered in his palms shimmering with an otherworldly light. With a fluid motion, he pours the water over River’s wounds, and I watch, breathless, as the liquid seeps into his skin.
At first, nothing happens, and my heart sinks, hopelessness spreading through my body as I realize that all of this has been for nothing. If the waters can’t even heal River, whose wounds are fresh, how will they help my mother?
