I whisper, startled, but it’s only Lady Brook—dark-haired, wry-eyed, and entirely unimpressed by formal entrances. She seats herself on the stone ledge, boots tucked beneath her, and gestures for me to sit beside her. I do. The arch overlooks the lower garden, snow having softened the sharp angles of the land into something gentle and bright. Only the peaks of roofs remain untouched, but beyond that, the glass dome of the greenhouse gleams like a crystal heart. I know the plants are safe in there—protected by old enchantments and the steady heat of a fire-fed system. My gaze lingers.

Brooke crossed her arms and looked out the window. "Is that okay?" She shrugged. "Whatever." Things were quiet until the pod pulled into the drive of the large bubble house. Tom and Brooke exited and greeted an older lady at the front door tending to her flower pots. "Oh my, welcome!" She said. "Art! We have guests!" She called over her shoulder through the open door of the house. Brooke pushed in front of Tom. She smiled warmly. "My friend Els sent us for a special makeover." "I'm Penina." She extended her hand and Brooke shook it warmly.

I was amazed by the way the campus sprawled with majestic Gothic buildings, lush forests, and manicured lawns. At the center was the Brooke Hall, with its towering clock, and it was surrounded by students in different uniforms. Lycans in navy blue, Alpha Heirs in crimson red, and Betas in forest green. “This is it, girls,” Avan said, his car purring smoothly along the pavement, passing beneath a grand stone archway adorned with the academy's crest: a snarling wolf's head surrounded by crescent moons. Lily said with a small smirk. Brooke placed her hands on her hips and nodded. Her arm that Rogue had recently healed and she was grateful that she no longer had to wear the cast.
