The morning sun rose over the valley, casting a brilliant, untamed gold across the frosted roofs of the academy. For the first time since I had arrived, the suffocating pressure of the High Council’s ancient wards was entirely gone. The air felt light, crisp, and completely free.

Brooke went home and hurried her way through shower and breakfast. She got dressed in a royal blue short sleeved shirt and a white embroidered long skirt, her blue stilettos complimenting her outfit. She made a quick work of her hair in a french knot hairdo and applied just a little bit of make-up. Once she was ready, she drove towards the brewery. She parked her car on the parking block and walked towards the brewery, where Nathan was already there to greet her.

Then, after they spent mid-morning to mid-afternoon at the beach, they took a drive a couple hours away to a place called 'Brookgreen Gardens'. It was perhaps Dillon's favourite part of their trip, or amongst his favourites. Adrian was right, it was enormous, with thousands of different plant species that grew wild over the entire interior of the garden. What Adrian hadn't mentioned was that it was also a zoo. That part thrilled Dillon, as he'd(somehow) never been to a zoo. There was so much to see and explore that hours flew by before they knew it. Naturally, Dillon had to purchase several different plant specimens on their way out.

She studied him for a moment, then pulled a wet wipe from her bag, crouched down, and, not very gently, wiped the blood from his face. Under the streetlamp, he noticed a faint mole beneath her right earlobe. “What’s your name?” he had asked, gathering his courage. She gave him a sideways glance, fearless and crisp in her reply: “Northhaven Ashford University. Microelectronics. Angela Bailey.” … Green Apple Academy’s elite summer program didn’t focus on academics. The program centered on physical development. On campus, children trained in horseback riding, dance, basketball, marksmanship, tennis, fencing, and field hockey.

"Woah there, tiger. Slow down. I haven't even gotten your name. I mean, sure, we have some classes together and I always see you around, but that doesn't mean that I know it." I shook my head. Brayden Nicholas. How did I not know that he had forest green eyes? Oh, right. Because I didn't bother noticing other guys when I was with Ashton. "Chloe Benson." "Benson? Oh, you're the one rumoured to be Caleb's brother. Or, proclaimed to be, at least." I did a small smirk. Rumoured? Proclaimed? I'm not that pathetic. "Yeah. If you don't mind, I'm- we are late to homeroom."

Brooke cut her eyes at me, "school is stressing me out. I barely have time to breathe this week." I nodded, "you want me to get Seth to look for you a job too." I laughed but it seriously wouldn't be too bad of an idea. Brooke was going to college for business management, hell we could probably work in the same building. As we pulled up to our hotel I sighed. Seth wouldn't arrive in Shreveport until sometime early tomorrow morning so today we were completely free. Checking in only took minutes and as the elevator doors shut I leaned against the mirrored wall, "so what do you want to do today?"

Belle nodded. Brooke had her MacBook pro out in a second, cool dark eyes staring down at its screen, her face a clean professional mask as always. “I can get a superb wedding gift specialist scheduled to have an appointment with you later today or tomorrow, depending on when and how you would like to be in contact with them.”

I was more than happy to place him with the spare few pack members who focused on cultivating the crops we had on the land. One thing that caught my attention was that Brooke was nowhere to be found. “Where’s Brooke?” “Oh, she’s down in that lab you had built,” Angie hummed. “Ever since you came to her about that unique plant, she’s been dedicating most of her time to finding out its true components.” Instantly, I was hit with a wave of guilt. “Oh Gods, I feel terrible,” I gasped. “I hadn’t meant to monopolize her time on this. I was just hoping that she would be interested in taking a look through some of the books I had.”

Somehow… Those four words seemed to say everything I hadn’t known how to put into sentences. I looked at both of them. “So…” I clapped my hands together once. “What are we waiting for?” They both looked at me. “If your father mentioned someone who might know something…” I stood up. “Then let’s go find him.” The academy library was quieter than usual. Tall shelves stretched toward the vaulted ceiling, filled with thousands of books that smelled faintly of leather and old papers. We made our way toward the front desk. An older woman looked up from the ledger she was organizing. Round spectacles rested low on her nose. She smiled politely. “Good morning.”

The goons walk with her quickly to camp. The three of us rush back. Brooke has built a beautiful nursery for children of the fellowship. Blue, yellow, and pink painted beds are lined up against the walls. Each crib made up perfectly against the walls. I walk up to one that is decorated perfectly. I notice it already has a name on it; Adrianna it says above the bed. “Where is this child?” I ask.
