The Mafia's Charming Mate

The Mafia's Charming Mate

“You have to kill Bruno on sight if catching him alive proves difficult,” their boss instructed them before dispersing them. Bruno Lorenzo had been a terror in town ever since he got the backing of the high-ranking people in power. His brutality was concerning, and something had to be done to it before he wiped away the entire city. Every single day, he would kill nothing less than two people in the most terrifying way. He once had someone covered alive with acid and threw the body out in the rain without a proper burial. Everyone knew he was the perpetrator, but nothing anyone could do about it.

" Cleopatra . " I knew this was coming because Bruno was pro Massa and Anti Luca . In my defense I was half and half so he couldn't take me however he could also not attack and territory that wasn't his so he came to the house in his capacity as a cop and not my friend because I've been friends with him for a very long time as long as I've known Michelangelo I've been friends with Bruno and he is an affable guy so it confuses me that he's working with a man that I really don't like.

THE APPLE'S OF HIS EYE

THE APPLE'S OF HIS EYE

{Abebi } "Are you out of your mind?" Mac Allister's words carried both disbelief and a hint of anger. He understood the danger we were in, yet he stood his ground. Bruno, however, seemed to revel in the chaos, his intentions revealed by his chilling response. "I have always waited for this day," he declared, his voice dripping with malice. My heart pounded in my chest as Bruno's finger tightened around the trigger. I closed my eyes, bracing for the worst, but instead, a gunshot echoed through the air. I cautiously opened my eyes to see Bruno lifeless on the ground, blood staining the earth beneath him.

He said with a soft voice. “Who is Bruno?” I asked curiously. “Be careful, or you might summon him,” he whispered. “What the fuck! Is he someone I should be scared of?” I asked with my eyes wide opened. “I was just teasing you, but he’s actually someone you need to avoid, if you think Diego is worse, then you should meet Bruno.” “Oh.” I whispered, still confused. “Bruno is the first son, the one with the worst temperament. If he was ruling the mafia world. Trust me, we would all have been dead. He shows no mercy.” He said chuckling at the look on my face.

“Then, I’ll start first. Perhaps, you all already know who I am. I’m T the new leader of Venomous Gang. This is my trainers Captain, Cassie and this is my private assistant, Roy.” Cassie’s eyes widen in shock. Private assistant? It’s now made sense as to why she never saw him before. “So, it’s actually like that. I’ve been wondering who they are for a whole night.” The young man laughed lightly. “I’m Terry. Leader of City Goon Gang. This is my sister, Tania, and this is my right-hand man, Zero.” The man who had a scar around his neck said. His voice was hoarse as if something is hurting his throat, and his expression is even colder. Vale wanted to ask about his scar but thought against it. F

he replied. I huffed a small breath. “Right.” Another pause. Then he added, “It went how it was supposed to.” I studied him for a second. He looked normal. Composed. Like always. But I could tell there was more he wasn’t saying. There always was. “Did it involve violence?” I asked. There was a change in his expression. Not big. Just enough for me to notice. His jaw tightened slightly before it relaxed again. “I can’t remember the last time I got involved in violence,” he said. “Luca has been the one managing the cartel for a long time now.”

Just then, we hear Neo starting to approach, there are two other voices, and a brief gun battle starts. I hear a thug trying to wrestling Neo down. “Look at this goddamn idiot. Walking straight into our hands.” “Who is you goddamn idiot.” “This is fucking hilarious,” The thug bursts out in laughter, “Our new mafia boss has the dumbest crew members.” They are creating a long enough distraction to get us in. “Let's go.”

His voice was soft, but it carried the weight of inevitability. “The police are looking for your men,” Eldorado said bluntly, ignoring the greeting. “And I’m certain you’ve already handled it,” Bruno replied, the calm tone concealing the steel beneath. “It’s fixed,” came the gruff answer. “Good.” Bruno leaned back in his chair. His tone was half-minded, as if solving police interference was no more troublesome than brushing lint from a suit. “When should I expect my money?” Eldorado pressed. “My men will be in touch,” Bruno answered, and ended the call without ceremony.

Chapter 119 - Free Men. BRUNO JOE'S POV, A snort escaped my nostrils as Pascal's words settled in my heart, "There's no need for that, Pascal. Let's not stain our hands with his blood. The police are here already," I replied, and instantly, a faint sound of sirens was heard from a distance. With each passing second, the sound drew close until it filled the air with his cry of alarm, After about five seconds, they stormed in, while the boys handed Don Pablo to the police who quickly handcuffed him,

She then called the two police officers in charge of guarding Bruno at the hospital to ask them to come to the morgue and see her immediately. Before long, the two police officers arrived. "Captain Weiss…" "Someone took Bruno's corpse away. Is that how you work? Didn't I order you not to let anyone touch his corpse?" Caroline reprimanded them. She was very angry about her subordinates' carelessness. Bruno's death was already a great disadvantage to the police, but now even his corpse had been taken away. It meant that they had lost all evidence of Stevie's crimes. "Someone took him away!?"

Preguntas frecuentes

The reading order for the 'Bruno, Chief of Police' series is pretty straightforward if you're just going for the main novels. Honestly, just stick to the publication order. Martin Walker has a habit of casually mentioning past case outcomes in later books, and you'll spoil minor resolutions for yourself if you jump around. Publication order is: 'Bruno, Chief of Police', 'The Dark Vineyard', 'Black Diamond', 'The Crowded Grave', 'The Devil's Cave', 'The Resistance Man', 'The Children Return', 'The Dying Season', 'Fatal Pursuit', 'The Templars' Last Secret', 'A Taste for Vengeance', 'The Body in the Castle Well', and 'The Shooting at Chateau Rock'. There's also a more recent one, 'To Kill a Troubadour'. I tried reading 'The Resistance Man' first by accident once because it was the only one my library had, and I spent the first two chapters utterly confused about who this Bruno guy was and why everyone kept referencing a case involving truffles.

If you want the absolute complete experience, there are a couple of short stories tucked away in anthologies or online. 'A Market Tale' is a nice little prequel that gives you a sense of Bruno's life before the first book, but it's not essential. The charm of the series really builds over time as the village of St. Denis and its characters become more familiar. The order matters less for the mysteries themselves, which are mostly self-contained, and more for the character arcs and the evolving relationships. Seeing Bruno's friendships with the Baron and the Mayor develop, or his various romantic entanglements, has a much better payoff when you've followed them from the start. The later books also deal with more serialized elements, like the ongoing archaeology subplot, which would just seem random out of context.

Honestly, the biggest reason to follow publication order is the food and wine descriptions. Walker introduces local delicacies and vineyards gradually, and reading them in sequence feels like a leisurely, multi-course meal through the Périgord region. Jumping into a later book where he's casually describing a specific vintage from a vineyard he spent a whole earlier book exploring just doesn't hit the same. You miss the foundational delight of it all.
