I took the box, my heart doing that annoying stutter thing again as I untied the ribbon and lifted the lid.
Inside, nestled on a little cushion of tissue paper, was a delicate silver bracelet with a tiny chocolate cake charm dangling from it—complete with messy frosting details and a minuscule candle on top.
“You must really like chocolate,” I teased, still laughing as I lifted the bracelet out and let it catch the light. The little cake charm spun slowly, catching the glow from the single lamp and making me smile even wider.
