"You stayed." A day later, Julia received a strange package delivered by hand. Inside: a single page from a diary. Scrawled in childish handwriting: "He watches me at night. Says if I tell, he'll burn the place down. I miss my real mommy. She used to sing to me before the fire." It was signed: "Regina, age 6."

asked Regina to be sure. "No, Miss! I hid the book under my dress so no one would see it," Cellin replied, swallowing hard. "That's good then. I hope you'll stay here while I read the book!" Regina walked over to the upholstered chair in the room. Regina did not want her father's work to interfere with her personal life. The exact reason was that she wanted to sit more comfortably while she went through the books one by one. Her eyes remained on yesterday, when the coachman had said that there was a substitute. Indeed, there was a strange name in the book.

She raised her hand and with her index finger she brushed the books, reading their titles. There were some that said "satanic pacts" others like "the call of the devil" "the forest and its hidden side" "small town legends" "werewolves and the full moon" and the last one said "Wisconsin Cases". Camila took out that last one, the book was big, it had a red cover with the image of the town itself. But that image was in black and white, as if it was taken years ago.

She had been part of the project that had unleashed this hell on the world. "This can't be real." I whispered, my voice shaking. "She wouldn’t have—" “Maya,” Daniel interrupted, his voice tight. “There’s more.” I looked up, and he handed me another file. This one was thicker, the pages dog-eared and stained with something I didn’t want to think about. I opened it, and the first thing I saw was a map—our region, marked with red X's. Target zones. “I think this is where The Burning started.” Daniel said, pointing to the map. “These are the areas that were hit the hardest.”

With everyone clinking glasses filled with sparkling cider and champagne, the wedding was amazing. It was a beautiful day. One full of new beginnings and quiet endings, of joy layered with unspoken goodbyes. She asked before Mr Martins audibly cleared his throat. "Uhm. The book" He turned to Zach. "The book you're holding unto from the library?" Then Zach pulled out a significant novel from his jacket trying his best to shield the title from Regina- -the title that was clearly shown on the other sides, the voices in your head. -a psychological true life thriller about a young boy with the gift of hearing dead people's voices. Ma’am Ague’s eyes widened at that. “You captured one?” “Your student over there engaged it. It led us to speed our operations and Regina took it upon herself to gather intel from your office. I’m sorry, ma’am, but we borrowed your book.” Without permission. Regina was expecting another death glare from her but Ma’am Ague only looked surprised, not angry. “I see. Looks like my notes led you here. I thought you were the enemy and that you are here to conduct the ritual by bringing in more human sacrifices.”

She had tried opening it but it was locked on the other end which meant that Reginald wanted ni disturbance. Reginald had been trying to read the book ge retrieved from the top shelf in his library but he kept reading the same line over and over again. His mind wasn't there. He had bern thinking of Avery and what would happen to her. "I am busy. Can't it wait?" Reginald asks irritatedly. He wonders whar she has to say in her defense again. Nothing would change his mind about this. "Just open up please. This is very important," Beatrice begs. Reginald sulks and stands up from his reading desk. He'd just hear what she has to say at the door.
