Isabella's POV The rejection email stared right back at me as though daring me to say something. We regret to inform you that we will not be moving forward with your application at this time. I'd read it five times already, as if the words would rearrange themselves into something less humiliating. The New York Chronicle. My dream publication. The place where real journalists were made. And they didn't want me. I threw my phone across the bed and pressed my palms against my eyes until I saw stars. This was supposed to be my fresh start. New city, new life, new Isabella who had her shit together and definitely didn't make terrible decisions involving older men in strip clubs.

This is a book I've worked really hard on, and it is filled with so much lore, smut (a whole lot of it), longing, plot twists, villains, and, of course, a man who'd burn down the world for his woman. Division 24 The man looked confused. "The deaths? It has been peaceful in this area." Beatrice frowned. "How so." She mumbled to see a figure leave the church through the other door close to a burner. "Ha! Something is burning." She said, and the father turned to have his eyes widened. They both walked to the pulpit of the church and behold a book was on the burner while the fiery fire burned. Father Jude had gone to bring water to quench the fire and when the fire that had been burning was quenched, Beatrice squinted her eyes to see that three of the books in the burner had burnt to ashes but one had not burned..not a single scratch on its body.

The atmosphere of the island was serene and warm, despite the nearness of the sea and the lightness of swimwear. — At the center of the square There stood a massive book, bound in dark brown leather. Its pages were thick, as if made to bear the heaviest of emotions. It lay open to a blank page. This was the Book of the Lovers’ Remembrance. It was said that every name written within it could never be erased, never forgotten, but would be immortalized with the island itself. Naomi approached slowly, her eyes gleaming with pure wonder, curiosity mingled with an inexplicable sense of awe. Adel followed her, stood beside her, and gently placed his hand on her shoulder.

A tiny smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. “You are unbelievable.” “So I’ve been told.” I rolled my eyes so hard they almost qualified as cardio. “Give it back.” “What do I get?” “My eternal gratitude.” “Boring.” “My notes?” “I can read those anyway.” “Kai.” “Wren.” “You’re impossible.” “And yet…” He finally placed the notebook into my waiting hand, letting his fingertips brush mine for the briefest second. Barely a touch. Hardly anything. Yet my pulse still skipped.

“You find something interesting, Maya?” I hesitated, my fingers tracing the edge of the journal. “This bunker belonged to a scientist,” I said slowly. “Someone who predicted The Burning. They tried to stop it.” Ben frowned, lowering his rifle slightly. “What do you mean, ‘predicted’?” I handed him the journal, watching his expression shift as he flipped through the pages. “They knew something was coming. They were part of some kind of project to stop it, but it got out of control.” Marcus snorted from his spot near the wall. “So, what? Some crackpot scientist thought they could play God and screwed it all up? Sounds about right.”

A book sealed by blood, only to be opened by the heir who had both fire and forgiveness. “You must go alone,” the priest said. “Only one may enter the Vault.” Jian stepped forward. “She’s not going without me.” Chaewon touched his hand. “This is mine.” He held her gaze and nodded once. The door hissed open. Inside, the vault pulsed like a heartbeat. And there it was, on a pedestal of scorched stone…a book bound in dark leather, etched with fire-glyphs that moved like liquid under her gaze. As she stepped forward, her hand brushed the surface—and the book opened on its own.

Damon I went back home immediately, my mind racing with several thoughts and ideas. Mrs Romano told me there indeed had been a book, containing what our actual duties were. It was fascinating that I hadn't heard of it all. Dad hadn't said anything about it in all the years and I knew for sure he knew about it. Then the story of the book getting burned, it was quite convenient if you asked me. The book getting burned and this increase in hunting vampires. Why hadn't we been taught about it in all the years they had been teaching and showing us? I knew there was no way I could ask dad, especially with the warning Mrs Romano had given me.
