As Carter stumbled forward, he knocked over the waiter's platter. Both he and Mrs. Walker were scalded by the spilled dish. Mrs. Walker's blouse was stained, causing her hasty departure. Carter's hand and arm were red from the burn, and he rushed to the restroom to run cold water over them. Being a troublemaker, he was used to bullying others. This was the first time he'd been on the receiving end, and he was furious. Anger flushed his face as he glared at Wendy, seemingly trying to incinerate her with his eyes.
