Butterfly Book Shelf Novels & Stories

A bowl of fruit sat on top, not just for show. The next room stretched wider, framed by glass walls from floor to ceiling, opening to a backyard soaked in rain. Outside, I caught faint outlines of a small treehouse, a wooden swing, and a narrow path that disappeared into the trees. The low chairs looked carelessly placed but somehow aesthetic. In the far corner, a tall, slim wooden shelf stood filled with random books: a few classics, a couple of old thrillers, and— I stopped. I tilted my head and moved closer.

Before she could respond- Knock. Knock. Knock. All four of them turned toward the door. "I'll get it," Seraphine said. She opened it. No one stood outside. Only a box rested neatly on the floor. A soft glow leaked from its edges. Her heartbeat quickened as she carried it inside and placed it on the bed. "What is that?" Mina whispered. Seraphine opened the lid. Inside was a delicate glass cage. And within it- A butterfly made of shimmering light, its wings glowing silver and gold as if woven from moonbeams themselves.

“You need to make sure you keep an eye on it every day, and as soon as it hatches, you need to bring it back here and let it fly away. But before you do that, I need you to make a note of what type of butterfly it is.” I dug around in my backpack and pulled out a small field guide to British butterflies. “Here,” I said handing it to her, “you’ll be able to find it in here.” She took the book off me, looking through it like it was the most precious gift in the world. “I’m going to go and put it in my room,” she said, picking up the container gently. “Wait, does that mean you’ve moved in?” “Yes, some of us moved in yesterday. Others are coming next week.”

When he removed his hand, Juicy clapped her hands loudly and gave them all surprised looks. The walls were a pale yellow and the windows had willowy white curtains. The white baby bed had a canopy and there was a huge white rug in the middle of the floor—but the biggest surprise is that everything was decorated with butterflies! There were butterflies hanging from the ceiling, framed pictures on the wall, the comforter had butterflies, there were stuffed butterflies on the shelves, desk, changing table as well as a dresser with a butterfly lamp on it. There was even a white glider rocker with butterfly pillows.

So, what does he love? I scanned the amazing and colorful insects pinned to the wall. A few of my friends would site that it was unethical to kill insects on the basis of collecting. Was it fair to take their lives for another’s hobby? And what did that make Xavier, unethical and creepy? Or a hot nerd with a love for biology? We passed the rest of the glass cases full of expensive dead insects and entered a new room. “This is my library.” Tons of bookshelves flanked the walls and ran from floor-to-ceiling. He’d stacked his books horizontally rather than lining them up side-by-side. If anything, his bookshelves told me more about him than his answers did.

It felt like, it was deliberately arranged. I walked closer to the bookshelf. I pushed gently against the wood with my fingertips grazing the edges. It didn't budge. One of the them slanted strangely, as though it had been nudged ahead a little. So I grasped it. I pulled it. And then the shelf clicked. A breath got trapped in my throat. Staring at the book shelf as it shifted back. Revealing a small secret passageway, flanked by shadows and stone. What's in the lord's name is....

Olivia would faint more than once if she could see this right now. I slowly walk between shelves, running my hands across the dark brown, sturdy wood that holds the books, feeling its smooth lamination. Every corner is perfectly labeled, so whoever is in here can easily find what they need. Whoever maintains a place like this definitely knows what they're doing. I stop, curious, at an aisle and reach for a first edition book on "The Technicalities of Wolf Shifting." I have no interest in it, but the vibe in the room prompts me to pick it up.

I opened it and found myself entering a smaller version of the library downstairs. There was no swirling staircase going up, up, up, rather walls full of books, some of which were only accessible via the sliding ladder off to the side. With my stomach full and heart heavy, I waltzed over to one of the shelves and scanned them, intending to pick a book at random. One in particular drew my eye. The cover was made of dark leather, embossed with a swirling gold font that was a bit hard to read. Tendrils of flame, interwoven with threads of shadow, danced up the spine and around the back.

Maybe it’s a Virtus thing and Randy does the same. Hastily, I closed the door and rushed over to the shelf. Hmm…. All the books look new like they’ve never touched a hand or a finger. They’re neatly stacked and organised in alphabetical or….der? Hmm? ‘Gone with the wind’? ‘G’ doesn’t stand between ‘V’ and ‘X’. I held my breath as I pulled out the book Click. Something close unlocked itself and the shelf shuddered. Is it me or did the shelf just relaxed itself like a spring?

He never thought that he will have to mix a spell in his lifetime again and thought he will be long dead by the time Jessica turned eighteen and didn’t bother to keep any special pre-mix and ready-to-use Shaman things around. Ann looked around the room for the first time. It had several potted plants hanging in front of the large window. A cluttered bookshelf that stretches from ceiling to floor and across from wall to wall. The bookshelf had glass bottles filled with different color liquids placed between stacked books that looked incredibly old and weathered. Ann even noticed some feathers, strings, and different size stones here and there on the shelves.
