•Heather• A small smile stretched my lips as I silently studied the beautiful butterfly in front of me. It had large, bright colored wings that were attached to a small body. I wondered what kind of breed it was and where it was from since my parents made sure that there weren’t many butterflies in the manor because of my older sister’s weird fear of them.

Even if you were to say no, it wouldn't work. You nod your head as you get up. Zale silently slides his palm in between your hand and excitedly skips his way with you towards the connected bathroom. The second you both step into the neat, child-friendly space, he lets go of your hand and walks off leaving you to stare at him confused. Didn't he want to show you his rubber duckies though? You widen your five-year-old eyes out as Zale suddenly reaches out to grab the hem of his pants, seemingly ready to tug it down.

he said smirking. “Okay, “x” is for breaking up.” I sighed hoping is not going to happen and he nodded. “Oh, I just remembered, I wanted to ask you…The day Chris gave me the note from you it was a d and a b. “ “Sweetheart, for me you are like a butterfly. Your whole life makes me think about butterflies. You are now mature and beautiful just like a butterfly” Alex smiled caressing my face. “My butterfly”. I can feel my cheeks turning red, that was such a nice thing to say. “My butterfly”

She couldn't have been more than five or six, wearing a yellow sundress covered in butterflies. My heart swelled with a love so fierce it nearly brought me to my knees. I knelt down and swept her into my arms, covering her face with kisses as she giggled. "Mummy, guess what! Guess what me and Daddy caught!" I smiled, leaning back to stare at her. "What did you catch, sweetheart?" "A butterfly! A real one!” She was bouncing excitedly on her toes now. “It was blue and so pretty and Daddy said we had to let it go but first we got to look at it really close and-"

Perceptive kid. She releases me and goes back to her picture. “What are you drawing?” I ask. “A forest.” She says. “Forests are dark though. Not bright like a garden.” “Forests can be very dark.” I say, nodding my head. “But they can bright and beautiful too. There are green trees and grass, and butterflies, and birds.” Grace’s face lights up a bit. “Butterflies? Where?” I point to a blank spot on the page. “You could put them there. A bunch of them.”

The sun was still shining brightly, casting a golden glow over the lush greenery that surrounded him. With Mama Hazel keeping a watchful eye, Theo embarked on a nature scavenger hunt. Armed with a colorful basket, he set off to discover treasures hidden among the trees and flowers. Each new find, from shiny rocks to fallen leaves of various shades, sparked his curiosity and wonder. As Theo explored, he encountered a fluttering butterfly with wings painted in a mesmerizing array of colors. Mesmerized by the delicate creature, Theo followed it as it danced from flower to flower, its beauty a living example of the colors he had learned about earlier in the day.

She must have done something right to earn this kind of devotion. "Deborah, look!" Emma called out, finally managing to cup her hands around one of the butterflies. "I caught one!" Deborah walked over to where the little girl stood, her expression triumphant. Emma carefully opened her hands just enough to peek inside. "It's beautiful," Deborah said softly, crouching down to Emma's level. "But maybe you should let it go. Butterflies don't like being trapped." Emma's face fell slightly, but she nodded with the easy acceptance of childhood. She opened her hands fully, and the butterfly took flight, its orange and black wings catching the afternoon sunlight.

His eyes, focused and sincere, carried no hint of flirtation, only a quiet, thoughtful intensity that made me follow his gaze. The butterflies were in various stages of life. Some were emerging from their cocoons, struggling to break free, while others had already spread their wings in vibrant colors. The introduction board on the side reads: When a butterfly emerges from its cocoon, it's also strengthening its wings to get ready for flight. As it breaks free, fluid from its body flows into its wings, helping them grow stronger.

I told her I wanted it to get better, so she helped me by reading up on how to look after butterflies. We tended to it, cared for it, until the day it was time for it to heal, and it should have left. It didn’t. I told her we didn’t do it right. The butterfly didn’t fly like we’d read in the book. She said we should give it more time. I’d given up hope, in my eyes the butterfly was dead. Then one day, she told me to come, she lifted the lid, and the butterfly flew out of the box.

She rushed into her big brother's arms, saying, "Bug. I’m scared." Spike held his sister's hand and comforted her by patting her back gently. "It's okay, Lemon. Bugs don't bite." He pointed at the caterpillar. "When it grows, it will become a beautiful butterfly." Lemon blinked in confusion, not understanding why a caterpillar would become a butterfly. She pointed at the caterpillar and furrowed her tiny brows. "Why? Butterfly is pretty, but bug is not pretty?"
