Cove stepped out of the armored SUV into the pouring rain. The docks were slick and foggy, the kind of night where everything looked like a ghost. Rain hammered down on the concrete, mixing with the river water that lapped against the wooden pilings. The yacht sat at the end of the long dock, its lights cutting through the mist like a warning.

Cove turned back once, rain streaming down his face. His black tactical jacket was already soaked. The bandage on his shoulder showed a fresh red stain. “Stay in the car. Lock the doors. Lena’s team is close. I’ll be back soon.”
