Kali’s birthday was in two days, and she’d spent a ton of time helping us research, so we set her free to go plan her party. Cas and I stayed buried in the books, trying to find anything that might help us. She had gotten up to grab another armload from the stash we’d taken from the library when I heard her call out, “Hey, have you seen this book before?”
“What book? I can’t see you, Cas…”
“Sorry” she laughed as she popped her head up from behind the table. “This book. About Dad’s family tree, I guess. I don’t know, it looks old as hell though.” She blew a cloud of dust from the cover. “Yep. Old” she coughed.
