I stepped forward, wolf coiling, senses heightened.
They moved like dancers in the twilight, fluid and silent. I caught the glint of silver teeth in the fading sun, the curve of claws ready to strike. But Nut had anticipated them, setting the traps we had discussed. The first wave faltered, tripping over concealed spikes, claws snapping as they tried to adjust midair. Their growls echoed against the remnants of walls, and I could sense their fear. Even the bravest wolf hesitated when confronted by a trap you didn’t see coming.
