I could hear Cynthia's voice saying that line in the background.

I questioned, not believing the words were coming out of his mouth. "You have been dealing with a lot of shit alone, and you have not slept properly as well." "Kai, I know what I saw...this is not in my head, I am not hallucinating." "Celeste...." he started explaining, but I stopped him. "No, I thought it was in my head. I thought I was going crazy too when I first saw it in the forest, in the mirror of my window, but she is not leaving me alone. Celeste’s point of view I could not keep my eyes open and kept nodding off. I leaned my head up on the seatbelt. CELESTE He reached inside and flipped a switch. Soft amber light filled the room. It was his bedroom. The space was large but intimate—dark wood, a fireplace, a bed that seemed to take up half the room. The sheets were black, the pillows piled high. The windows faced the garden, moonlight spilling through the glass. He led me to the bed and stopped beside it, turning to face me. "One more time," he said. "If you want to stop, tell me. I will stop. Do you understand?"

“What?” She swallowed. “I didn’t come here to be rescued.” The chamber went silent. Kael stared at her. Celeste stepped backward. “Chloe…” Chloe’s eyes filled with tears. “I’m sorry.” I shook my head. “What did you do?” She looked toward the glowing symbols. Then toward my aunt. Then back at me. “I brought you here.” The ground beneath us suddenly cracked. A deep roar came from beneath the mountain. The candles went out. The Gate had awakened.

Celeste’s POV I waited up for Azrael. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, that he’s getting to me, that I’m catching feelings for him. But that’s not it. At least, that’s what I kept telling myself. I just wanted to find out why Alessia was missing. That’s all. I threw my leg over the side of the bed and paced the room, talking to myself like a crazy person. “Technically, this isn’t my fight, and I should be glad Alessia’s gone, right?” I muttered, glancing at the window like it could argue with me. “She’s the ex. The one who claims she’s pregnant. So… good riddance.”

Celeste As I regained consciousness, a sharp pain throbbed in my head, causing me to wince. Every part of my body ached. I attempted to move my hands, only to realize they were bound. My vision blurred as I blinked repeatedly, eventually focusing on the ropes that secured me to a chair. Panic flooded through me. Where was I? What happened? I was still trying to put the puzzle together as to how I got here when the door opened, and Anna walked in. She wasn’t alone. Three men followed her inside.

"What's happening." I went over to Celeste. She was starting to get her energy back and she opened her eyes. I smiled and kissed her head, bringing her to me so I could hold her tightly. I glanced back at Zay and answered her question. "The rogues are attacking."
