She was pregnant.
The realization hit her like a freight train. Tears welled up in her eyes, blurring her vision.
“Care…” she croaked, her voice barely audible.
The door creaked open, and Caroline stepped inside, her face soft with concern. One look at Susan’s expression, and she didn’t need to ask.
“Oh, Susan,” she said softly, kneeling in front of her and pulling her into a hug.
Susan’s tears spilled over, and she let them fall freely now, gripping the test in her hand. “It’s positive,” she whispered, her voice cracking. “I’m pregnant.”
