Tala Pov. The moon shone up , far away in the sky ,round and full. Its crisp light flooded the valley, rippled in the steam, and illuminated the bony fingers of leafless trees. I wasn’t concentrating on all of that , my heart was pounding so fast and I was gasping for breath. My vision this time around was very clear and real, my father won’t believe me anyways, he never believed in any of my visions. It was the eve of my birthday and I’ll be turning 20. I wished my eyes would close and I would have some sleep but it was a fruitless effort trying to do so.

Selene's POV My eyes were stung with a flash of light, and I growled, rolling over away from it. My peace was ruined. "Moon Goddess, come on?" I growled. I opened one eye slowly, hoping against hope to see some miracle—a flat chest, zits, maybe a beard. No such luck. My mom stood over by the window over near the far side of the room, smiling tightly as she opened the curtains. "Good morning, my love," she gasped,

“Is she a god now?” The elder laughs. Soft. Human. “Gods live in perfect skies. Luna lives in messy ones. In you. In me. In every wolf who chooses anyway.” The pup’s moon appears that night. Small. Pink. Scarred on one edge like it fell and got back up. He runs to the Circle at dawn. “Mama! My moon bleeds already!” His mother hugs him, blood on her own palm from work. “I know, baby. Come sit. We bleed together.”

Everyone's attention snapped to me. I finished the rest of food in a haste and I couldn't have left the dining hall any faster. Opening the curtains of the window in my room I gazed silently at the bright crescent moon. The moon always reminded me of my mother, though I never really saw her. I used to pass my nights admiring the moon whenever I felt lonely or sad. It's light has always given me a comfort that only a mother's loving embrace could.

However, I still walked on it barefoot. I held the handrail and stared blankly. As the setting sun shone on my face, I felt a strange warmth sweep through me. I unfolded the lantern gently. Afterward, I took out the lighter from my pocket and flicked it. A small flame caught the tread despite the breeze. I let the lantern go after holding it over the balcony. Soon, it went up the sky slowly. I stared up at it for a long time. Tears clouded my eyes. After blinking, they rolled down my cheeks. I hugged myself tightly. My throat was sore as I muttered, "I miss you, Mom and Dad."
