Owned By My Father's Rival

Owned By My Father's Rival

And somewhere behind them, in a cell with gray walls and a toilet without a seat, Mira Black stared at the ceiling and wondered if anyone was coming to save her. --- End of Chapter Seventy-One.

The Price of Obedience

The Price of Obedience

The box of medication in my hand felt unbearably heavy. I stared at the unreasonable woman in front of me, and in that moment, every ounce of patience and restraint I had left finally snapped. "Ms. Grant." My voice turned cold. "I’ll say this one last time. This is lifesaving medication. If it’s delayed, someone could die. Are you going to move or not?" My tone seemed to enrage her. Her voice shot up sharply. "What kind of attitude is that? Kian, you’re not even married yet, and you’re already rebelling?

The Witch Keeps Time

The Witch Keeps Time

“Time can tolerate a great deal. It tolerates chaos. It tolerates suffering. It tolerates death, endlessly. What it does not tolerate is obstruction.” My stomach tightens. “So I’m an obstruction.” Mercy doesn’t smile. “You’re worse. You are a point it can’t smooth.” I think of the battlefield. Of the wrongness I felt when the moment repeated. Of the way my body seemed to know where it would break before it did. I think of the clock hand pausing. “How do you know,” I ask. Mercy’s eyes flick to Eliza, then back to me. “Because I’ve seen anchors before,” she says. “And I’ve seen what time does to the people who love them.”

The Lycan King’s Treasured Luna

The Lycan King’s Treasured Luna

He had loved me even when I was unlovable. And now, as Joe knelt before me in chains, I finally understood the depth of that gift. Death would have been mercy for men like these. Living was the truer sentence, the slow gnaw of chains, the constant scrape of stone, and the rot of their own filth clinging to their skin. To breathe every hour in the same shadows where they had left me, knowing no dawn would ever come without my consent, this was justice. They were already carrying their penance on their hollowed faces.

This is a beautiful story. It goes through the ups and downs of love and shows that just the simple act of showing up at the right time can set your life on a better trajectory. I’d still definitely recommend every reader to brace themselves because your emotions will run rampant, haha ;)

I loved this book and it's characters. I love how there was no unnecessary drama that slowed the pace and didn't make sense like in other stories. And I loved the way that we got to see some of the same scenes from both perspectives. I'd love to read a sequel.

Master of Justice, Slave to Desire

Master of Justice, Slave to Desire

If there was any justice in the world, what was about to happen to me was the greatest injustice. I didn’t want to die! “PLEASE!” “Shut up, bitch!” The stinky one screeched, his accent as heavy as the smell of smoke on his breath. They dragged me out of the ruin like I was nothing. Strung me up between them like the catch of the day, cuffing me until my blood supply to my hands was cut off. My legs were duck taped together until every movement rubbed my skin raw. I continued to scream until my throat was dry, keeping the hope in my heart that whoever the shadow I’d seen was, he would return and do the right thing.

The Seventh Heartbeat

The Seventh Heartbeat

I smiled softly as I silently picked up the report. “Since you know I love money, Mr. Abbott, why don’t you lend me some?” Jade was overcome with emotion, and tears streamed down her face. She sobbed as she grabbed the man’s sturdy arm. Yet, her gaze toward me was filled with resentment and malice. “Dear, maybe it’s true? “Besides, it was Ms. Lewis who left you first, which was why you received that heart donated by a kind soul! “Shouldn’t we help her?”

Star-Crossed Wolves: Silver Moon Rising

Star-Crossed Wolves: Silver Moon Rising

"Mercy you don't deserve. But mercy we grant to prove we're better than you." Mercy. The ultimate weakness. They could have executed me. Should have. Would have been smart to eliminate the threat permanently. Instead, they chose compassion. Gave me time. Opportunity. The chance to plan my next move. Idiots. "Do you have anything to say before transport?" the prosecutor had asked. "Just that you've made a mistake. Mercy is vulnerability disguised as virtue. And vulnerabilities can be exploited." "We'll take that risk." "Yes. You will." The curse had been my contingency plan.

Seven Years for One Regret

Seven Years for One Regret

I raised my hand and showed him the one already sparkling on my finger—bigger and more dazzling than his. "Why would I ever give up this ring for you?" I scoffed. He crumpled, like all the life had drained out of him. He sank to the ground, mumbling to himself, "How could this happen? You gave up on me?" Lynn burst in, looking frantic.

Pertanyaan yang Sering Diajukan

The book lays out the systemic failures in excruciating, personal detail. It's less an abstract critique and more a chronicle of how bias, poverty, and indifference compound into catastrophic errors. Stevenson doesn't just show a broken trial; he follows the decades-long aftermath, the bureaucratic inertia that fights correction even when innocence seems obvious. The justice system here isn't merely flawed—it's actively hostile to the poor and to Black people, viewing them through a lens of guilt from the start.

What stuck with me was the portrayal of exhaustion as a weapon. The system wins by draining hope and resources, by delaying until everyone except Bryan gives up. That's the real portrait: a machine designed not for truth, but for finality, where mercy is an aberration you have to claw for against all odds. I finished it feeling furious at the casual cruelty of procedure.
