Helplessness pierced my heart. The chances of rescue were nearly gone. I stroked my belly through the pain, talking to my baby. I prayed that, if it had a next life, it would be born into a pack where its father loved its mother. Then it would be happy. My breath grew faint, my blood turning to ice in my veins. Suddenly, the cage door swung open, and the lights flickered on. The sight of me in a pool of my blood startled the wolf who stood there. I used my last bit of strength to inch forward, whispering, "Help… me."

I stared at the closed door with wide eyes, my heart racing in my chest as the memory of being locked up replayed itself in my mind. Bile rose up my throat, my vision clouding up as tremors shook my body. All my life, I've yearned for freedom. But despite everything I'd gone through, I was still trapped like a caged bird. My chest tightened, my lungs straining for air. I shivered, more panic washing over me as I struggled with my restraints. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I kicked and shook my arms in desperation. In my despair, I fell off the bed and crashed to the ground, pain shooting through every muscle in my body.

Days will turn into months and months into years but I will never get a chance to escape. I will always live here like a caged bird or should I say dove as the king likes to call me. If what she said is true then what is the point of living a life like this? What is the point of continuing to breathe when all I will get is pain? This palace will never be my home because home is where family is and my family is not here. Only God knows where my family is and what they are going through.
