Broken by One, Desired by All
Charlie stopped at the fork, turning to face me with that same smug grin he always wore when he was about to leave me to face my doom alone.
“Alright, hybrid,” he said, his voice dripping with false sympathy. “Try not to get expelled before I see you again.”
I flipped him off, but there was no real heat in it. “I’ll do my best,” I shot back, though we both knew my track record with "best" was… questionable.
Charlie laughed, already turning toward his classroom. “Good luck!” he called over his shoulder, his voice cheerful. “Don’t screw it up!”
“No promises!” I yelled after him, watching as he disappeared through the doorway, his laughter echoing behind him.
