I heard Richard say as he stood beside me, his voice steady and resolute. Charles glared at Richard, his anger evident in his clenched fists. "Great, you both escape the illusion, but how will you escape these?" Charles said as he took the book of Ekleípo in his hand and started chanting spells aloud from its pages. Letting the darkness consume him. "We need to stop him now," I said, my voice filled with determination. "Richard, we have to find a way to break his hold on that book before it's too late."

I felt satisfied with what I was holding and took it out of the closet with me so I could wear it for dinner. After I was done picking out my outfit I decided to go back to the black book that my teacher gave me and try to see if I could teach myself a spell. I held the book in my hand for a few seconds before finally opening it. I could feel a small smile on my face when the book opened easily. When I looked inside the book I saw that there was one spell on the first page of the book. I could feel a frown replace the smile on my face. I couldn’t understand why the spell Shadow was the first thing I had to learn. What does it even do?

But before she could respond, a hush fell over the crowd as a figure emerged from the shadows. It was Charlotte Manson, Jace's long-lost ex-girlfriend, her face twisted in a sneer as she stepped forward to join Tracey's side. With a wicked smile, she raised her hand, conjuring a powerful spell to aid her ally in her time of need. But as the spell flew towards Jace and Marvin, something unexpected happened. She looked at Charms and sniffed, and nodded. “I wish we all could get to the dragon and get out of here safely away from the Leviathan and the Ocean God.” Shaid said, as she held onto Shadow tightly. “You're wish is my command.” Charms eyes glowed, her hair flying around her, as she stood up in walked around the boulder. She was in a trance, as she said words none of them recognized as everything around them stilled.

I refocused on the book in front of me with renewed effort. It didn't take long before books started coming in. I laid them out in front of me. The spells varied. There were pregnancy spells, summoning your dead relative spells, changing time spells, and bringing someone back for the dead. The biggest question was, which one was the darkness up to? My finger ran over one line in a book. "This one here. It takes six blood relatives and ten thousand souls." "What's that one do?" She asked. "It's an immortality spell."

But then, I couldn’t move. My body tensed as I tried to lift a foot, twist a wrist, even tilt my head. My limbs had locked up like stone. The air was frozen, and the energy around us became heavier. I looked down to see my own shadow was gripping my ankles, slithering like a cursed rope of smoke. I snarled under my breath. “The shadow binding spell”. I muttered.

The spell could only offer me a temporary reprieve, a fleeting taste of a life I could never fully have. As the sun began to sink lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the market, I felt a pang of regret. Reluctantly, I started to retrace my steps, the enchantment gradually fading away. The incantation echoed softly in my mind as I whispered, "Solis dominus, aeternum tenebras serviam." With a heavy heart, I closed my eyes and began to chant the reverse of the spell, my voice tinged with melancholy. The world around me blurred and shifted once more, and when I opened my eyes, I found myself back in the study room, the sunlight now a distant memory.

Within its pages lie the secrets of the night itself. And one particular spell, the Eclipsing Veil, can make us invisible to Seraphina's senses."
