Dave pressed his lips together as Reece’s admiring words drifted to him, and unconsciously, his mood lifted.
“Dad—can you give me one? Just one trophy!” Reece turned suddenly, looking at Dave on the bed, her eyes glistening with hope.
Dave frowned, his narrow eyes flashing with a seriousness that made Reece shift uneasily.
“Dad?”
Dave spoke in a deep, firm tone. “Why? You’re only three years old—already wanting rewards without working for them? Do you think trophies come for free?”
Reece reluctantly set the trophy down, her voice earnest and sincere. “Okay… when I grow up, I’ll be as great as you, Dad. I’ll win lots of trophies too.”
