It was Christmas, so each food court shop was having their Santa to attract more customers. “No ma'am, I just come here” He replied. The birds cooed gaily not minding the whiter, foamier and more inviting snow that fell peacefully from the bluish sky. Perfection and high-spiritedness filled Fairford Overlook. I walk a little too eagerly for my own good to the entrance causing Jared to chuckle at me and nearly jog to keep up. Walking into club Magic causes me to have a brisk holiday jitter. There are hundreds of sparkling lights hung up around and a large Christmas tree decorated with candy canes and small green and red bulbs. It looks like someone took Christmas and threw it up in here.

I learned to be thankful and quiet. That acceptance made me hate Christmas. Love songs made my skin crawl. The lights under our tree looked like glass eyes. The ribbons on the presents were traps. Every year, the house tuned itself to cheer and I pretended to enjoy it. The twenty-fifth became the night when a new kind of cold touched my bones. It was the day the truth had crawled out at me like an animal. It was the day I had learned how much of my life had been decided by other hands.
