“Oh and Milo,” I call back to him, “Send for Charron, I want to reward his finder.” Milo scurries away, like a good boy. The fear seeps out of his pores and tickles my senses. Feeding the demon inside me. He’s obedient and loyal, I tell myself. Trying to talk myself out of bleeding him. But he smells oh so delicious.
“There, there,” I pet the wild wolf, his breathing slowing, evening out as he sinks into the darkness. “When you wake, you will be reborn.”
