Ember. The thought of her consumed my mind even in the heat of battle. I yearned for her safety even as I wanted to be with her. And I could be as soon as I killed Lukas. That son of a bitch was probably lurking somewhere in the city, watching from a safe distance like the spineless coward he was. The sooner I found him, the sooner I’d be able to go to Ember. With renewed vigor, I pushed forward through the oncoming warrior. With Grey and the other shadow walkers at my side, we fought our way through the city streets, the tide of battle gradually shifting in our favor.

CHAPTER 158 — EMBERS OF THE FALLEN The city’s skyline burnt with a quiet, smouldering fury. Streets that had once carried laughter and life now twisted into jagged paths of blackened concrete, scarred by Bishop’s fragment-fuelled rampage. But Riven stood at the centre, crown key in hand, heart pounding, eyes scanning the horizon. He could feel every pulse of Meridian, every breath, every heartbeat vibrating through his body. The city’s consciousness was alive, but it hung on the edge of fear.

Leo asked. I thought about the fire that had broken through my binding, the ancient fury that had opened its eyes inside me and refused to be extinguished. I thought about Marcus, out there somewhere, still burning with whatever twisted rage drove him, and about how different that kind of fire was from what I wanted to build here. "Ember House," I said slowly, testing the words. "Because an ember isn't the destructive part of a fire. It's what's left after everything burns down — small, but still warm. Still alive. Still capable of starting something new if you're patient with it."

Still, the exhaustion weighing on our group felt far more urgent than my suspicions. Oliver returned after finishing the paperwork. “We’ve secured the best lodging in the central district, Alpha. An inn called Holy Ember.” We entered the city. The streets were paved with warm red bricks beneath our feet. On both sides, blacksmith shops were still hard at work, the clang of metal against metal forming a constant rhythm. Cinderbloom felt completely different from Sapphire Water territory, which smelled of damp earth and morning mist. Here, everything was dry, hot, and buzzing with explosive energy.

The night went still again. Ember stood there for a long moment,cold and shaking, feeling all the rises from her skin, she pressed her hand against the window glass. Recalling the words again “He’s not gone”. The words echoed in her head over and over until her pulse began to hit painfully against her ribs. When she finally lay herself down, she didn’t realize she was crying until she tasted salt from her middle lips. Darius’s POV

The Void Hunters had arrived in force, their presence turning the sky into a writhing mass of anti-light that hurt to look upon directly. The assault began, striking first at the Realm of Embers, a world where phoenix-folk had dwelt for millennia, their cities carved from crystallized flame and their culture built around eternal renewal. I watched from Hollowshade's mirror-pool, the scrying surface rippling with images of unspeakable devastation as flames that had burned for ten thousand years were swallowed whole in moments, leaving only a bleak, echoing silence that stretched across continents.

When Ember finally arrived, she hurriedly parked her car in-between some trees, to keep it away from sight, looking around to make sure, no one was secretly watching, she ran towards the direction of the mansion Her knees felt weak below her, as she saw, the state of her family house. The condition of it was beyond anything she could have imagined. The once-beautiful estate, with its pretty gardens and elegant architecture, was now reduced to an abandoned site, filled with ashes. Ember’s heart ached and her body whimpered, as she took in the scene, the reality of her loss hitting her like a physical blow. ~~~Ember~~~ "Ember" a voice called out, breaking me from my daze. “It looks so cold and soulless, don’t you think?” Ember didn’t flinch. “I obviously just arrived. I’ll decorate it in my own style in time,” she said. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have somewhere to be.” She moved to step past Serene, but Serene wasn’t finished yet. “It’s a good thing you’re young,” she mused, her voice thick with condescension. “You’re too inexperienced for him anyway.” Ember exhaled heavily but didn’t turn around. “I honestly don’t give a rat’s ass about what he likes,” she said flatly. Then, without missing a beat, she added, “And I sure as hell don’t give a fuck about you. You can choke on his dick for all I care.”

Sunlight fell across the colorful landscape of Cascade Valley. Though traces of the pain from Cora's divorce still lingered in her eyes, what dominated was her anticipation for a new life. Having just ended her failed marriage, Cora set foot on this land full of mystery and tranquility. Upon arriving in Rosewood, a city known for its year-round mild weather and abundant gardens, she was greeted by warm sunshine and vibrant flowers. She strolled through the streets and alleys. A gentle breeze brushed her hair. Colorful flowers swayed gracefully along the roadside.
