Zee and Inara stood beside Cassy. Violet May pulled up an ancient book the title of which read- SHADOW OF JOY She proceeded to flip through the brownish pages. Zee and Inara caught sight of different game titles. She stopped at the title that read- The Last Dare. Then she looked at Cassy.

A pity. “Are you even listening to me?” I lifted my eyes from the book in my hand. The Mark of Exile. It was the sequel to The Corpse in the Fog—a crime story about a man killing the lover of the woman he desperately wanted. You could say I was taking notes of very effective and interesting ways to kill Zesa’s lover. I’d had enough of him impeding my happiness.

Nodding toward the book he said, "Is this what you encountered?" I pulled the book closer. When Laeddin leaned in to see as well, I held my breath, fighting to ignore his beckoning blood. The book had pictures of skulls with smoke coming off them, their eyes glowed red. Human bodies bent at strange angles. The pictures definitely resembled what I'd seen happen with the man in the forest and with Abby. Several different kinds of names were given, but demura wasn't one of them. There also wasn't any information on how they could be killed. "I think so."

I had to find out what the fuck was really going on for myself. I did eventually find quite a bit of information about the so-called Zoldeck coven. My main source so far came from an ancient looking book one of the staff members directed me to when I told them I was looking for info on witches. The cover was brown and wrinkly and had some type of spiral symbol with three swirly things connected to each other. There was writing on the front, but it was in a language I didn’t recognize. It felt like dried up leather and the pages were so stiff I thought they would crumble between my fingers.

He has to get to his child. We can push the door open far enough for me to slip into the opening. It is handy to be small sometimes. I enter the room, seeing the cause of the obstruction is a bookshelf. It must have tipped and lodged itself against the door during the earthquake. I tip the bookshelf back against the wall, letting Brixtius have access to the room. A room with furniture strewn all over the place. "Eurydice!" I yell out, hearing her cries from under a fallen dresser. Brixtius moves with speed and lifts the wooden furniture like it weighs nothing.

“You’ve pushed yourself too far. I’ll start deciphering the book while you rest so that we can get rid of the human's soul once and for all.” Kayziel groaned weakly, nodding. “Yes… do that. I just need… a moment.” He drifted into a restless sleep while Hugh carried the Ledger of Souls to the desk, his fingers already itching to unlock its dark secrets. ******** Cordin was dragged down the dim, damp corridors of the dungeon, his heels scraping against the rough stone floor. The air reeked of mildew and despair. He barely registered the slamming of the steel cell door behind him as they threw him inside, his body hitting the ground with a dull thud.

I don’t have time for this. The soft ding of the elevator announces my arrival, and I step out, heading straight for Zoe’s room. My hands push the door open, and what I see stops me in my tracks. Zoe is lying on the bed, propped up on pillows, flipping through a book. She looks calm, completely at ease. And then I see it—the book in her hands. It’s the book. The same one I stole from the library. The werewolf book. My stomach twists as memories flood back, all the questions, all the warnings.

~ROMAN~ I observed Zaed Stokes as we discussed business. He was composed, thought before he spoke and most importantly the perfect person for the kind of work I wanted to do with him. I was impressed I couldn't lie and the aura of authority that surrounded him lived up to his name. "That would be all," I told him, gulping down the remaining alcohol.
