Before I could react further, a cold, mechanical female voice filled the room. “Welcome, Gilberto.” Gilberto was his middle name that he used to use for his work . All they had needed was the damn six-digit code. She typed it in—and suddenly the dreaded red REJECTED message vanished. In its place appeared a green progress bar, slowly filling up. The transfer was in motion. "Bingo," she whispered, but only barely—her heart was pounding too loud in her ears to even breathe properly. She watched the progress bar crawl forward, the countdown ticking right beside it. Every nerve in her body was on edge. And then, finally, the little clock hit zero. Just like Daniel's account balance: Zero. Absolute zero.

All this can’t have been for nothing. I thought for a second.. then quickly typed in a number. A large red ‘X’ appeared. Six numbers. Six numbers….. what could it be? I tried another sequence .. the X appeared again. Dammit! I knew it was going to lock me out soon. Or alert someone or something and I couldn’t have any of that happening. Or else I’d have to go home, my head between my legs and do this whole ordeal another time.

We waited, my heart beating loudly in my chest for the time. “Okay! The thirty second is up. I'll be getting the new code soon.” I looked at my wait, counting the seconds. Mia was pressed up against the glass, staring out and waiting patiently with me. “Twenty more seconds, Black. We need that code anyway.” “Boss, I'm working as fast as I can. I'll have it…now! 233496!” My hands shook as I imputed the code into the lock, the uncertainty wavering in my mind. What if it didn't work? What if he missed a number?

"It's a visual error, Richard, sit down!" But it wasn't a visual error. On the main monitors, the code was physically cascading down the screen, a waterfall of red text. French authorities are asking questions.” Kael walked slowly toward the windows, gaze steady. “How many casualties?” A brief hesitation. “Two. Possibly three.” “Possibly,” Kael repeated, mildly. “We’re confirming.” “Confirm faster.” He did not raise his voice. He did not need to. “Who authorized the alternate route?” he asked.

“ Yes, angel, I have my phone. Do you need to call someone?” “ No, I figured I should give you my number if you are going to continue showing up like this.” I smirk at him. There is amusement in his eyes now and he smiles down at me, shuffling in his jacket pocket he retrieves his phone and hands it to me. I turn it on and there is a code that locks it. I go to hand it back to him and he simply tells me “ I have nothing to hide from you, the code is 5683.” I quickly type it into the phone and add my phone number.
