Stepping into the kitchen, I dialled Devin’s number, and his greeting annoyed me to hell. “Hello, baby bear?” I groaned. Sander will pay for this shit! “You are not allowed to call me that.” Devin chuckled, and I heard the ruffling of sheets and Ren’s muffled voice telling her husband to come back and kiss her. “What do you need, Evan?” Devin’s grumpy mood lessened when he got married. His patience stretched a mile longer. Thank the heavens for Ren’s decision to marry him. I sighed. “I don’t know what to do, Dev.”

Hans teased. "Just like you can't wait to see Martha" Connor shot back. Hans looked taken aback for a moment. Hans never, ever, let his emotion slip. So for him to be taken aback for a moment, Connor knew he wasn't mistaken. Hans has had a thing for her for a while now. He didn't exactly hide the way he looked at her, he made it so obvious. So he wasn't entirely subtle.

She thought of last night and replied, "I didn't see the message you sent last night." Evan: "It's a good thing you didn't." Phoebe: "Huh?" Evan: "I sent it to the wrong person." Phoebe: "Are you only congratulating me? Shouldn't you do the same to Connor? He's finally free of me." Evan: "Don't worry. I'll buy him a drink and toast his escape from the sea of matrimonial suffering." Phoebe couldn't help but think that Evan seemed to have dropped all pretenses. Before, he would have said that Connor was truly a jerk in their marriage, and now he wanted to celebrate Connor's liberation from suffering.

She smiled when I met her eyes, but something about it felt tight, like she was smiling through a thought she didn’t want to share. By lunch, the air had shifted back to normal. Or close to it. Julie and I sat near the cafeteria window, unpacking our food. She was telling me about her chemistry teacher’s meltdown over someone microwaving fish in class — her impersonation was spot-on, and I laughed so hard my drink almost came out my nose. That’s when I heard Connor’s voice from behind me. “Hey, Emma!” I turned around, and there he was with Ethan and Liam trailing behind, trays in hand. Ethan’s grin was easy, confident — the kind that carried a room without trying.

Connor fumbles nervously with his fingers as he speaks, "I' ve heard a lot about you, so yeah um I think you should read this letter. That is if you want to. I won't force you to or anything..I just thought maybe it would do you good.." Connor holds out the folded piece of paper and looks unsurely at Hannah for permission. His brown eyes widen when Hannah gives a hesitant nod and gently hands Connor the piece of paper. “Did Micah ever tell you about the first time we met?” Connor looks down at the file’s cover and shakes his head. “No, it never came up.” Before I change my mind, I clear my throat and recount my story. “I met Micah six years ago after he rescued me from a serial killer. Edward Hansen III was a Wall Street mogul turned serial killer who kept children trapped in a barn before he handed them over to a group of other sadistic fucks who’d rape and murder them.” Connor rears back as if he was slapped and sputters. “Are you serious?”

Evie said, feeling a little bit better, “Hey, I also wanted to ask… have you heard anything about Connor?” Hailey paused, “Connor? Who's Connor?” “Have you forgotten Connor?” Evie asked, “Connor Perkins.” “Connor Perkins, Connor Perkins,” Hailey repeated the name trying the remember, then she gasped in realization, her eyes widening, “You mean Connor? THAT Connor? Connor freaking Perkins? Ethan's…?” “Yes,” Evie confirmed, “Him.” “Girl, I don't wanna talk about him,” Hailey said, getting to her feet, “Even his name gives me chills,” She hunched her shoulders, “I thought we all agreed not to talk about him. Why do you ask?”

Kyrie suddenly held his hand up and said with a mysterious smile, "Now that we said it, I do have a solution." Seeing how confident and mysterious he was, Eamon's interest was piqued. "What is it?" "Do you still know Miss Murphy?" Kyrie asked in a low voice. Miss Murphy? Eamon thought about it and nodded immediately. "Let me tell you. Miss Murphy is the woman Hansen loves. I don't know why she came here with her child, but Hansen might have come to look for Miss Murphy. Her son is also his. Perhaps she can help with this matter," Kyrie said very excitedly.

A photo flew through the air and landed near Murphy’s boots, and another came spinning toward me, and I caught it and turned it over. My stomach tightened almost immediately. It was Damian, and he was wearing a cut, and not just any cut, it was the Dead Revenants’ colors. He had a smirk on his face in the picture, like he owned the place. Murphy bent and picked up his copy and stared at it with his face hardening. “What the fuck is this?” Dez took a step closer. “You think you’re smart, Myles,” he said, pointing at me. “You think you’ve got everything under control. But while you were busy playing house, Murphy here had Damian working in your ranks!”

but it was too pretty not to wear tonight. "Evelyn Lockhart," he introduces me, "my fiancée. She's not any latest," Connor educates the man. "She's the one." My heart skips at that. The one? Does he mean that? Is this all part of an excellent, Oscar-worthy performance? My stomach flutters when he presses his lips to my cheek, and I feel a flush of pride when the bald man looks embarrassed. It doesn't help that his scalp turns red, too. "We should get going," Connor excuses us, and we keep moving.
