His fur sizzled with smoke and a burnt patch of fur was under his jaw. He shook himself and the fur fell to the ground, turning to cinders. The pendant wouldn't let him touch it. His eyes glowed bright as he tried to heal the patch but it didn't work. He looked at me angrily and charged. He was faster than lightning– the Sapphire was enhancing his speed–and I had no idea when he smacked me with his paw. I felt a bone in my neck crack and I was on the floor. In a blur, all I could see were paws and claws going at my skin, tearing my fur and ripping my flesh.

Stretching muscles that I now had felt rejuvenating. "I don't know why my mom thinks wolves are so gross, this is amazing!" Spying Axel, well Cota in an alert stance I slowed my pace and went to stand beside him. Sniffing the air and looking around I was confused about what he was sensing. Cota suddenly lifted his paw and shoved my muzzle to the ground. I heard him yipping and howling as I jumped up and tackled the ass. Cota nipped at me playfully as he rolled on his back.

"Shortcuts." "Yeah, you know, the cheat codes," I joked, shifting closer. I let my eyes linger on his face, lowering my voice a bit. "Come on. You’re the genius here and I’m just a guy trying to keep his head above water. Help a guy out, and I promise I’ll make it worth your while. I can get you premium tickets to the winter finals or anything else that's within my power that you'd like." Nathan looked down at the worksheet, then looked back up at me. For a second, I actually thought my charm had worked.

I pretended to have just regained consciousness as I said with a pained expression, "Owen, what happened just now? My stomach really hurts!" Owen patted my back gently, showing a tenderness I had never seen before. His voice sounded choked as he said, "The witch examined you just now. Our pup is gone." I pinched myself and forced out a few tears. Upon seeing this, Owen cupped my face and kissed the tracks of my tears. "Ivy, we'll have another pup. I'll stay by your side until you fully recover." At that moment, a phone rang, again and again.

I glance at Daniel, his green eyes staring at my bare legs for a moment before he quickly turns around. "A little warning next time Kat," he says with mock seriousness. "Oh, shut it Dan, you're always sneaking peaks at Kat's legs," Audrey jokes and we both giggle. He turns around, smirking at us, then winks and walks off. "I'm going to start the coffee." "But its Saturday!"

And I just sat there, silent, watching them. Torn between the past and the future. Between what I wanted. And what they deserved. They finished their plates soon after, syrup sticking to their hands and cheeks. Jake licked his fingers and giggled. "Mama! Can we go watch Paw Patrol now? Please please pleaaaase?" Kate asked, hopping out of her chair. Blake jumped up, nearly knocking his juice over. "Yeah! It’s the new one! The pirate one!" Jake slid off his seat with his blanket dragging behind. "I like the dog with the hat."
