Coraline Tunnel Romane & Geschichten

The door sealed shut behind us with a hiss that sounded far too final. The tunnel curved downward, lit only by emergency strips along the ceiling. Pipes ran along the walls, and the air smelled of rust and time. We ran in silence, our footsteps pounding like war drums. At the tunnel’s end, an old service elevator awaited. Liam punched in a code. The doors screeched open, revealing a dimly lit interior. “This will take us to the Raventon subline. Off-grid. No surveillance.” The elevator rattled as it climbed. I leaned against the wall, watching him in the flickering light. “Why me?” I whispered. “Why does everything come back to me?”

The air was damp, but the concrete walls were reinforced—a remnant of an old Cold War shelter no one remembered existed. “I sealed the back entrance. If they breach the top level, they’ll waste at least two hours getting to this tunnel.” Julien snorted. “Two hours is generous.” Cassian glanced at Anais. “Do we still have access to the substation The Violin mentioned?” “She’s already en route. Said to meet her at the point near Redstone Ridge.” Cassian nodded. “Then we don’t stop moving.” The march through the underground took hours. There were no lights, only the small flickering glow from Cassian’s hand torch and the weak red emergency strip along the lower wall.

After several minutes, a faint draft touched Elowen’s face. Corvin paused again at a section of wall where the stone looked smoother. He pressed his palm against it. A low click answered, and a concealed door swung inward. Beyond it lay another corridor, this one lined with old sconces that had not held flame in years. The walls were carved with faded symbols, ravens, crowns and spiral patterns that made Elowen’s skin prickle. Corvin stepped inside, then waited until Elowen followed. He closed the door behind them, sealing the darker tunnel away.

"We aren't riding the shadow-line twice in an hour, Coral. Your core is running on fumes, and the child—" "The shadow-line is too loud anyway," I cut him off, a slow, predatory smirk touching my lips as I stretch my arms, the dark leather of my Northern tunic flexing against my ribs. "There's a high-speed maintenance transit rail behind that bulkhead. It runs straight through the mountain's core to the eastern gate. It's faster than your wolf, Alpha."

“Do you know how to drive? This is such a huge car, and it’s stopped right here. How did you still manage to hit right into it?” Zenios glared at Coraline furiously. Coraline looked apologetic. “Sorry, I’m really sorry, this tunnel hasn’t been fully built yet, so I thought there wouldn’t be any car in here and sneaked in to have fun. I didn’t expect that there would be someone here. Zenios, don’t be angry. I’ll pay for the damages.”

Once in a while his eyes checked the ever-congested, until they finally stopped in front of a college called the University Of Coral, London. Celine didn't descend directly, she smiled as she saw a beautiful woman walking right in front of the edric car he was riding. "You're not coming down?" reproof Edric. "Look, it's professor Crystall!" Celine exclaimed excitedly, coming down and saying hello to her teacher, "Professor!" Next to Edric's eyebrow raised, he didn't care about Celine at first. However, when his eyeballs accidentally caught the lovely face of a familiar looking woman, Edric walked out of his car.

Kaelen roared. ​His voice cut through the fog, snapping the Southern warriors out of their stupor. They reached for their weapons, their eyes scanning the dark water. Below the surface, a massive, glowing shape began to emerge. It wasn't a fish. It looked like a forest of moving coral, miles long, pulsing with the same sickly violet light that had consumed the woman at the Citadel. ​"The Coral-Spine is moving," Elara gasped.

"Just be the monster they’re afraid of. Burn the Spires for us." We entered the back tunnels, a narrow, dripping labyrinth of slick stone and rusted iron. The air was saltier here, the sound of the distant ocean a low, rhythmic thrum. Dante’s breathing was becoming more labored, each step a battle. The "Tether" was glowing a hot, angry violet, reacting to the stress. "We're close," Sora called out from the front, her glow-stick cutting through the oppressive dark.

‘Sour grapes don’t suit a man of your reputation. The group walked through the door, beyond which was a huge, arched tunnel made from sculptured cement. At regular intervals more caged lights were secured high into the ceiling, and the walls of the tunnel were nondescript, save for a single yellow strip of paint halfway up the walls, horizontal and streaking off into the distance. The chemical smell was there too, strong enough to leave a slight metallic taste at the back of Elmo’s throat. Elmo noted dark green mounds scattered about the tunnel, he counted twenty before his nerves took over.

They were shaking, the gold scales gone, replaced by a pattern of deep, red welts. "We're here," Kael rasped, pointing toward a jagged pile of boulders near the base of the pack house ridge. It wasn't a gate. It was a drainage pipe, reinforced with rusted iron bars and smelling of lye and ancient grease. The Marrow Gate. He reached out and grabbed the rusted metal, his fingers glowing with a dull, earthy light.
