Her eyes widened in horror as she saw black mist creeping from the earth, slithering like a living serpent hunting them. The air turned ice-cold, and the sharp scent of metal filled her nostrils. Rael cursed under his breath. “They’re coming again.” Lorian halted briefly, staring at the mist that moved at an unnatural speed. “Dark shadows…” he murmured. Aria swallowed hard. The creatures emerging from the mist looked more terrifying than before. Their bodies were gaunt, taller than an average human, with long, gleaming claws. Their glowing red eyes radiated pure hatred.

The ground cracked beneath us, the wind howled, and from the shadows— They came. Misted creatures. Fog-like wraiths with no eyes but endless mouths. Twisted limbs. Long, dragging claws. Things that shouldn't exist in any era of life or death. Creatures born from ancient curses and trapped spells. This forest was their tomb, and we had disturbed it. But I didn't care. They were neither living nor dead, and they reached for the living with clawed fingers. Adrien shoved Sera behind him and slashed at the reaching hands. Each one cut released a burst of foul-smelling vapor. Zayn pulled another blade from his boot and hacked, shouting over the roar. “We can’t kill it like this! We have to cut it out of her!”
