ILANA. The Blood Moon Festival came five days too early. On the third evening, the moon bathed its eerie, crimson glow over the Nightshade Pack. This was an event rarely experienced and considered by the pack to be a sign from the Moon Goddess, hastening the fate of two destined mates. The pack was in an uproar of joyful frenzy. The whole of the pack square hummed with excitement, as though even the air vibrated in anticipation. I faltered at the door to Rana's small cabin and brushed off invisible lint from the pale blue dress that Rana had lent me for tonight. "Rana, are you sure about this?" I asked, trying to keep the nerves from edging my voice.

“So, I made myself a name! Christine, the Sorcerer of the West. It has a nice ring to it and it does sound youthful too!” Everyone thought that Christine was not scary at all. She was nice and very fun. Well, at least she broke the witch stereotype. “Now let’s discuss why you’re here.” Suddenly, the room became serious. The lively energy was gone as Christine’s face went serious. “Why are we here?” Azrael asked to lessen the tension “Azrael, you are here to stop Brody.” And in a single breathe, Christine showed them the visual of the Crimson Crest Pack.

Blood sprayed in dark arcs that caught the strange, too-bright moonlight and glittered like spilled ink. The Crimson Claw pack was smaller but fiercer, red-brown fur flashing like embers. They fought dirty: going for throats, hamstrings, eyes. One of them, a lean female with white streaks on her flanks, leapt onto the back of a Silverfang warrior and clamped her jaws around his neck. He thrashed, yelped once, went still.

Crimson, still moving at superspeed, had then descended upon one creature that turned out to have been devouring the insides of one of the warehouse men. He struck it twice from the back then added one powerful blow that sent a bolt of lightning ripping apart the creature. Kristina was then on his side. The creatures were still quite a handful, their ferocious figures darkened in the night. “There’s too many of them!” Crimson said. “Yeah, no shit!” Kristina snapped back, twisting her dagger in her hand. Crimson was then thinking about getting both of them out of there when the sky boomed followed by a bright luminescence that turned out to be some kind of large mass of energy just a few feet

“Because those four were only the beginning.” Beyond the valley walls… The Crimson Moon Order had already begun its hunt.
