35. Friends Astrid's POV: I stood in awe, finding a cupboard filled with dazzling crowns. Different parts were packed with exquisite crows, each one unique in its own way. I whirled around, my eyes wide, feeling as if I were in a dream or a high-end jewelry store. "What are these?" I asked. "Crowns, duh!" he said sarcastically. "Yes, I know, but why so many?" I asked. It seemed like he had an obsession with crowns, much like my obsession with shoes. In the past, no number of shoes was ever enough for me. I think he wanted me to choose one now, but I was confused and didn't know how to respond.

I replied and earned a wolfish smile from him. Nora, on the other hand, had stopped crying and was looking at the crow on top of a tree branch. It was looking at us with midnight blue eyes, which makes me wonder if crows have such an eye color. But Nora didn't seem to mind as she beamed and pointed at it with her finger."Aish!" She said. "Aish? You mean Ace?" I asked Nora but she was too busy looking at the crow. A movement at the corner of my eyes caught my attention. The snake was on the move again and slithering really fast towards us. "Ren!" I said, trying to warn him of what was coming.

Chapter Twenty-Seven His shiny eyes just stared at me as if he were a reflection that penetrated my eyesight. He differs from the other blackbirds. I know what they called this a Raven. I secretly smiled because I knew for myself that he was a special blackbird. More clever, quick and unique to crawls and owls. I rubbed his feathers to make him even more meek and, as Willow says, we need to step on our blackbirds and let them know we are their master.

Armina's perspective: I stare into the sky in amazement as flames ignite, the air around us pushing it up into the sky like a tornado. As I watch I see them; hundreds of oversized crows; their bodies igniting as the sound they make is so high pitched all of us wolves are on the ground. The sound piercing our ears, I try to block it out, my intense hearing working against me as the sound feels so piercing I'm worried my ears are going to rupture.

From this far off, she still could not make out any details. Ralin’s eyes were much sharper, though. “More crows,” he said. “Hundreds of them. Maybe thousands.” Soon Leesa and Dominic could see the same thing Ralin saw. From their speed streaking toward them, Leesa guessed these birds would be just as hostile as the one Ralin had killed. It was difficult to tell from this distance and at this speed, but Leesa thought there was something off about the look of the birds. Some seemed to have misshapen bodies, or ill-formed wings or twisted beaks. None of the deformities slowed them down, however.

Since when does a crow lay this kind of veiny, shiny, pulsating golden eggs? Just then, one of the eggs they could see started cracking fast. Didn’t that sly thing reassure them that no egg would be cracking soon? How come one cracked as soon as they got here? The first crack gave liberty to the rest of the eggs, and in no time, all the eggs were shattered. Now they could see the giant younglings that looked very similar to crows, looking confused and crying out for their parent. If this was their size as babies, then what about the mother?

The crow worked fast, driven by the blood that stirred in its veins, feeling the might of a God who they had silently thought of but never served. The crematorium was a place often watched by beady eyes, never finding titbits of flesh but enjoying what people did drop. Seeds from plants, crumbs from foods, often couple with the scent from the burners which their sensitive nostrils could pick up. The raised mounds with plain wooden markers haphazardly stabbed into them, indicated the latest residents. Unable to have anything more ornate until the ground had settled over their final bed. Ava I found it under the big oak tree where I always sit to read. The raven was so still, like it had just decided to stop being a bird in the middle of flying. Its eyes were cloudy, and its feathers stuck out all wrong. When I poked it with a stick, it didn't move, but it made a weird sound—not like a squish, more like breaking glass, but super quiet. That's when I saw the sparkly stuff. It was in the dried blood around its beak and eyes. Little crystals that caught the morning light.

It seems he has the same thoughts as I do, but desires to hear my inputs first. I nod, "White millet is the favorite bird seed of sparrows, as they have small beaks. The large amounts of seeds with a yellow shiny coat have come to attract ground feeding birds. With that in mind, it is safe to say that somewhere scattered on the ground are trails of millets. After all, there has been a pattern in the sparrows who have been flying in the sky."
